TO5107 Assessment 3: Action Plan

Requirements for successful completion of this assessment item

Students need to achieve an overall percentage of 50% or more across all assessment tasks, therefore a student may not need to pass this assessment task to pass this subject, but they must make a reasonable attempt. 
Students must meet the following criteria to achieve at least a Pass.

  • Employs appropriate language and accepted principles of English and APA citation. Communicates clearly and coherently but not always concisely with very few errors in expression and referencing
  • All sources are acknowledged with in text citations and proper and complete APA style references.  All direct quotes are identified with quotation marks, author and date and page number. Plagiarism software does not identify issues with close paraphrasing. Uses 5 or fewer direct quotes
  • Must include all the sections set out as instructed
    Students must be able to demonstrate that they have made a concerted effort to complete the work required for the assessment (ie. They have used the assigned readings, and conducted additional research required to understand the topic)

TO5107 Assessment 3: Description

This assessment builds upon the previous assessment 2.  Students should develop a story-based element for the experience they have been working with in their previous assessments.  As one of the major ways to support a story-based experience in visitor experience is through communication /interpretation for visitors this should be explored in more detail in this assessment. In addition, the story-based experience should incorporate the elements that make a story attractive across cultures, thus integrating the outcomes of the activities conducted in class on cross-cultural story elements.

The assessment should have the following sections

1. Recap of the Visitor Experience Concept (200–250 words)

  • Summary of the visitor experience concept developed in Assessment 2.
  • Target audience and key features of the experience.
  • How the experience lends itself to story-based interpretation.

2. Story-Based Visitor Experience (300–350 words)

  • Description of the story-based element being created.
  • Include the story as an Appendix
  • Narrative structure (setting, characters, conflict, resolution).
  • How the story enhances emotional engagement and learning.
  • Relevance to the location, culture, or heritage of the site/experience.

3. Cross-Cultural Storytelling Considerations (250–300 words)

  • Key insights from in-class activities on cross-cultural differences in storytelling (e.g. narrative structure, symbolism, values).
  • How these insights inform the story design and delivery.
  • Examples of how the story will be made appealing and meaningful to diverse cultural audiences.

4. Visitor Communication and Interpretation Plan (300–350 words)

  • Communication tools and channels to be used (e.g., guided tours, signage, audio guides, AR apps, storytelling events).
  • How these tools support the delivery of the story and sustainability messages.
  • Accessibility considerations (language, readability, sensory inclusion).
  • Staff training or technology needs.

5. Implementation Timeline and Next Steps (150–200 words)

  • Short timeline for rollout of the story-based experience and interpretation tools.
  • Key milestones and responsible parties.
    How success will be measured or evaluated (e.g. visitor feedback, learning outcomes).

Provides a mostly clear summary of the concept from Assessment 2. Some link to story-based interpretation and audience needs. Key features are mentioned with some detail.

Clear, concise summary of the visitor experience concept. Strong and logical link to story-based interpretation. Target audience and experience features are well articulated.

2. Story-Based Visitor Experience (30%)

Story element is undeveloped, vague, or missing. Narrative lacks structure (e.g., no setting, conflict, or characters). Minimal relevance to place or visitor engagement. Story not included in appendix.

Describes a coherent story element with basic structure. Some attempt to enhance engagement or learning. The connection to location and cultural relevance is present but could be stronger. Story is included but may lack polish.

Well-developed, creative story element with clear structure and emotional appeal. Strong relevance to place and purpose. Story enhances learning/engagement and is included in the appendix.

3. Cross-Cultural Storytelling Considerations (30%)

Little or no reference to cross-cultural storytelling. Class activities not integrated. Story design lacks consideration of diverse audiences.

Refers to key cultural differences with moderate integration into the story design. Some cultural sensitivity and understanding shown.

Demonstrates clear understanding of cross-cultural storytelling. Class insights are well integrated. Story is inclusive, culturally sensitive, and designed for broad appeal.

4. Visitor Communication and Interpretation Plan (30%)

Communication methods are poorly explained or missing. No clear link to storytelling or sustainability. Accessibility is not addressed. Tools are vague or unrealistic.

Outlines appropriate tools with some explanation of how they support story and sustainability. Accessibility and interpretation are addressed but could be better integrated.

Detailed and realistic plan using well-justified tools and channels. Strong link to storytelling, interpretation, and sustainability. Accessibility and inclusion are thoughtfully considered.
