Purpose of Assessment

This assignment covers CLO2 which will illustrate the unique aspects of the theatre as a mode of storytelling and entertainment. (C3, PLO2) DEADLINE: Friday, the 11th of April 2025 at 11:59pm through Blackboard Turnitin in the coursework section under the Theatre Review assignment

2. Please choose one of the plays listed below. Please read the play and choose an adaptation of the play. Please clearly indicate the play being referred to and the type of adaptation in the title of the assignment.
– Examples of types of adaptations: Movie; Television; Live/Stage; Radio Drama; etc

3. This assignment must contain the following parts. This is a guide. Other relevant aspects can also be included in the review under parts a-e below. Please provide detailed references to the text of the play and the adaptation of the play in your assignment.

a. The Play: Historical & Cultural Background, Genre, Plot, Characterization, Stage Directions, Dialogue, Character Interaction, What is spoken or unspoken (Subtext)? How successful was the adaptation in conveying the purposes of the play?

b. Major Themes: What are at least two or three main themes or messages being conveyed by the text and the performance? Has the adaptation succeeded in conveying the themes effectively?

c. Performance Space: Where the text of the play take place? What the relationship is between the performers and the audience? How does the particular adaptation convey the space in which the play is supposed
to take place? How much information does the play provide with regards to performance space?
Is this effective?

d. Artistic Collaboration: How do the playwright, director, designers, and others work together to create the production in relation to the text of the play?

e. Theatrical Elements: Scenery, Costumes, Music, Lighting, and other effects that contribute to the performance. How well has the play been adapted? How much effort has gone into the design of the performance?

Has this been done in an effective manner?
