SWSP5113 Learning Outcomes

[a]Exhibit advanced knowledge of key sociological concepts to contemporary social issues and their relation to collective action. 

[b]Demonstrate autonomy and well-developed judgement regarding the implementation of participatory planning approaches across a range of complex practice settings involving communities. 

[e]Apply sociological knowledge across different practice settings, sociological knowledge involving diversity and inclusion within social environments, and analyse historical patterns of social inequalities and social change and how these factors underpinned collective action. 

[f]Display advanced knowledge of the roles of social sciences in the development of human services policy frameworks and contemporary collective policy design processes (e.g. co-design).

SWSP5113 Instructions 

Choose a contemporary social movement established to achieve a social, economic, political or environmental aim -e.g., address racism, reduce poverty, address environmental decline. 

Write a critical reflection on the movement, which contains the following elements: 

1. A brief overview of the movement and the issue(s) it aims to address, including a summary of the origins of the issue -e.g., historical, economic & social aspects 

2. Apply a sociological perspective-e.g., functionalism, Marxism, symbolic interactionism, or feminism -to the issue, detailing the insights this perspective can provide into the causes and potential solutions to the issue(s) 

3. Reflect on how human services might use this sociological perspective to inform a strategy for intervention. Briefly reflect on the potential for change in this area of practice -i.e., in your view, how achievable is making progress toward addressing this social issue
