Learning Outcomes

LO1 Critically analyse business decision-making process and the social framework, within which firms' decisions are made including its economic, legal, sociological, and political aspects.

LO2 Critically assess business strategy within a framework of different market structures including critical examination of the social outcomes and their sustainability.

LO3 Critically assess the role and influence of macroeconomic environment on the business applying data analysis and critical evaluation of the data sources both at national and international levels.

LO4 Critically prepare and analyse strategies leading to potential sustainable business growth on the local as well as international markets while evaluating them from the social and business perspective.

Purpose and Rationale

The purpose of the project is to allow you to demonstrate your understand of key economic concepts and apply them in a real-world setting, using appropriate data to support your arguments. This represents both a test of the module learning outcomes, and all develops your analytical skills for any future role you might undertake.

Requirements for the Assessment

You have been employed by a large organisation from your home country to prepare a consultancy reporting considering the organisation’s potential entry into the Scottish Whisky Industry (Please see case study) . Using the materials discussed during the module, prepare a report covering the follow issues:

1. Critically analyse the managerial constraints and trade-offs that you organisation would face when entering the industry focusing on:

a. Mode of entry

b. Output and supply constraints.

2. Critically analyse how the current economic climate in the UK would influence the organisation’s decisions.

3. Consider the option of exporting the product to the organisations home country and discuss how the macroeconomic environment in that country would impact on such activities.

4. Given you discussion above, briefly recommend a business plan that would allow the organisation to make a success of this new venture.

5. The analysis should be supported by reference to appropriate academic theory and underpinned with data.

Within this assessment the use of Gen AI is permitted but it is advised that you use Gen AI with caution.

This should only be in the form of:

1) the use of technology to assist with structure, or

2) to make suggestions on your written work in relation to English and grammar.

It is important to always start with your own work and to carefully check that any suggestions made using Gen AI are appropriate and relevant to your submission.

State what use of Gen AI (if any) is appropriate, including possible use of Grammarly (checking of spelling and grammar) – remind students they need to declare any use of Gen AI tools in the Assessment Declaration Cover Sheet.

Assessments on this module have been designed with diversity and inclusion in mind. To this end students are allowed to focus their report on a organisation from a country of their choice.

Alternative Assessment Option(s)

For students with exceptional circumstances, Individual Learning Plans or those in need of specific adjustments, alternative assessment arrangements may be applicable. Please discuss with the Module Leader as early as possible, to allow for alternatives to be considered. 

Deadline for Submission  

Submission Date !9^th of December 2025 

 All coursework, both at first attempt and reassessment, submitted after the agreed deadline will be marked at a maximum of 50 per cent. Coursework submitted over five working days after the agreed deadline will be given a mark of zero per cent, although formative feedback will be offered to the student where requested, as per Academic Regulations Sections B and C.’

Your coursework should be submitted via the Moodle module page through

Turnitin. Please see the link within your assessment folder on Moodle.

For every assessment, you must submit an Assessment Declaration Cover Sheet which must confirm that the submission is your own and has not been submitted for another assessment. Follow the instructions on Moodle on where to submit your work and Coversheet’, or, if the assessment is not a written or similar artefact, give instructions on any alternative procedure which has been agreed.

You are advised to keep your own copy of the assessment.

Feedback will be provided for you within 15 working days of your submission.

This will be provided via the feedback tab on the original submission

alongside your final grade for the submission.

Should you wish to discuss the feedback you have received from your

submission you should book an appointment with your module leader.

There is only one assessment for this model, so the report is worth a 100% of the module mark.
