Assessment Task

Students are required to submit a reflective essay to demonstrate meeting the learning outcomes.

The reflective account should integrate reflection within an overall discussion bringing together:

1. The student’s own learning
2. Opportunities for application to a public health practice of their choice and
3. Consideration of their future role as a leader in public health. Relevant theory and literature should be used robustly to support and enhance discussions.

Introduction: (approx. 250 words)

1. Clear and concise
2. Set the scene for your reflective account.
3. End the introduction with a short summary of the structure of your essay.

Reflective discussion (approx. 3500 words)

1. Briefly outline a public health practice of your choice based on your past, present or future role. For the future role, examples include managing a public health project, leading and organising a health outreach, leading a public health research group and introducing a new system of working in a public health organisation.
2. Think about how leadership theories, models and styles can be applied in different scenarios in your chosen public health role to achieve desirable outcomes using reflection.
3. Think about individual, team and organisation dynamics and the factors that can influence them and how this can affect public health outcomes.
4. Think about the structure of your organisation and how that structure can impact public health delivery.
5. Think about strategies and interventions that can be used to motivate people to achieve desirable public health outcomes.

Ensure that in your writing, you are being reflective and applying these leadership concepts to scenarios, whilst synthesising and writing critically.

Conclusion (approx. 250 words)- Summarise your account. Think about how you will continue to develop your leadership skills in the future, what might you need? Be specific.
