Use of generative AI

You should only use AI as a tool to help with your assignment, not create/write your assignment for you. For example it can help you to:

  •  Identify ideas and concepts to research further
  • Read around a subject
  • Suggest images, visuals, and graphs (remember to cite correctly).
  • Planning your assignment, the structure, conducting a literature search, etc.

BUT, the content it pulls together may be false and inaccurate. Just like with Wikipedia you cannot just accept it. You need to use your information literacy and evaluation skills to check and review what the tool is telling you. You will also need to reference the AI tool(s) that you have used.

Completing your assignment

What am I required to do in this assignment?

Assignment 2: A 1500 word (+ or – 10%) personal portfolio comprising of three 400 word parts/patches that will explore core academic skills and identify strengths and areas for development. Students are encouraged to use their personal experiences throughout their academic career to reflect and set goals for themselves as they start their public health course. Each of the three 400 words parts/patches carries equal weighting towards the final mark.

What do I need to do to pass? How do I achieve a good grade?

The Unit Information Form states the Threshold Expectations that inform both you and markers what is the minimum needed to be demonstrated to pass the assessment. They should, therefore, answer the question "What do I need to do pass?”. During the assessment introductory session, you should be given the

opportunity to check your understanding of the threshold statements and what you need to do to surpass them.

The assessment marking criteria listed below show how your work is assessed. The assessment criteria are informed by the unit’s learning outcomes and the assessment task. Carefully reading the assessment criteria should help you understand the aspects that will be used to judge your progress and achievement of the learning outcomes and offer guidance on “how do I achieve a good grade”.

You need to ensure you include a minimum of 6 reference sources. Using feedback from assignment 1 and other themes explored within the unit, you should present three sections using sub-headings within which to explore. You can either explore academic strengths and weaknesses within each theme, or pick three themes two of which might be weaknesses and one theme might be a strength. Your discussions should accurately reference theory to show how the theme is considered to be an academic skill, what you have learned about yourself on the course so far and how you intend to further develop these skills.

To pass Assessment 2, the student will need to

  • Reflect upon your academic skills and think about your strengths and support needs to succeed. Present this information in line with the academic conventions taught on the unit.
  • Demonstrate a basic ability to write the patches in a logical way.
  • Reflect upon your academic skills and think about your strengths and support needs to succeed. Present this information in line with the academic conventions taught on the unit.

How will my assignment be marked?

Your assignment will be marked according to the threshold expectations (see the Unit Information Form uploaded on BREO) and the specific marking criteria below (marking rubric). Please read carefully as they will help you prepare and evaluate your own work before you submit. They will also help you understand the grade and feedback received once marked.
