PRM22705 Project Brief

This project brief applies knowledge from “Managing Project Resources” to a practical real-world scenario. Throughout this project, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of project management theories and concepts, tools and techniques apply them to a hypothetical case simulated real-time project environment and develop essential professional skills in creating project portfolios and delivering engaging presentations. Industry based project management software MS project. 

The assessment consists of two parts- 

1. PRM22705 Part 1- Individual project life-cycle analysis 

Part one of the assignment is based on the MS Project work. You are a project consultant overseeing the work of medium/large project to deliver the project outputs. Select a medium/large project of your own choice of any industry to deliver a project outputs. You need to build a project plan and perform project execution in MS Project software (you will follow the same steps for your selected project as given in the sample Garden project manual)

Project life-cycle analysis (2000 words +/- 10%, excluding reference, figures/images, tables)

The assignment report should have the following sections,

1. Introduction

After you select a project, explain the project in brief. State the project outputs to be delivered at the end and also state the project outcomes.

-Approximately 150 to 200 words.

2. Project planning and Project Execution 

Complete the following sections using MS Project Software only,

Part 1: Project Initialisation and Task Structuring (Project Scope-WBS)

Part 2: Task Dependencies and Project Logic Building (Project Schedule)

Part 3: Resource Allocation and Cost Management (Project Resource and Project Cost)

Part 4: Resource Levelling and Optimisation Techniques (Project Resource)

Part 5: Project Tracking, Monitoring and Control (Project Execution and Project Closeout)

  • The report should have 1.5 line spacing. 
    All figures and diagrams must be appropriately numbered, referenced and with a text call out.

2. PRM22705 Part 2- Individual Project portfolio

In part two of the assessment, you are a project manager overseeing the development of a new project’s creative product/service (you can choose a project of your own choice). Through the four stages of project delivery, initiation, planning, execution and closure, you will produce a bottom-up estimate of project costs in Excel for a range of scenarios (according to selected project case study data developed). This will include tangible and intangible assets, direct costs (variable costs) and indirect costs (fixed costs), Earned Value Analysis (EVA) and other appropriate variables of your choosing. 

Project portfolio (1500 words +/- 10%, excluding references and appendix) 

Your project portfolio should include:

1.Introduction

  • Explain the tangible and intangible project objectives and other key factors with evidence. 
    Approximately 150 words

2.Project Stages, Resource and Tasks:

  • Describe how resource managing changes through the project stages and the assumptions that underpin them
  • Explain normal, optimistic, pessimistic scenarios, contingency and remedial action (according to selected project case study data)
  • Monitor different types of resources (land, labour, capital, technology)
  • Direct costs and indirect costs
  • Earned value analysis (planned costs, actual costs, earned value)
    Approximately 1300 words

3.Conclusion

  • Summarise the key problems and lessons learned
    Approximately 100 words

Appendices

In addition to the project portfolio, you are required to produce an MS Excel Spreadsheet (according to the sample project case study data shown in the classroom) that shows the financial monitoring of the project through its four phases and operation as described above. The assignment must be submitted in MS Word with pre-scan for plagiarism via Turnitin software. Please do not attach object file in the submission report, just add images.
