PRM22104 Project Brief

This project brief applies knowledge acquired from “Sustainable Project Management” to a practical real-world scenario. This provides the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of project management theories and concepts, their application to a hypothetical case, and develop essential professional skills in report writing. 

1. PRM22104 Part One: Individual Sustainable Project Plan & design report for ESG project

You are the project manager delivering a new creative eco-friendly product or service of your own choice. The creative product or service emphasises Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria in its delivery, development, and life cycle. You must decide a building creative product or service and produce a report explaining how it satisfies the ESG criteria aligned to sustainable project planning and design. The report will show how the ESG criteria will be applied through the project and subsequently and will include some (or all) of the elements covered during the course such as;

1.Introduction (200 words)

  • Overview of a new creative eco-friendly building/product/service project (description of an existing gap/need and product/service idea description). Justify how your choice of product or service meets ESG criteria with evidence from a wide range of bona fide sources.
  • Brief description of applicable sustainable project management principles, methodology, standards, sustainability assessment tools or competence framework to be applied for a new creative eco-friendly product/service project. 

2.Sustainable project plan and design (ESG Criteria) (1700 words)

Within this section, build a sustainable project plan for your selected new creative eco-friendly building/product/service based on the guiding elements described below:

Statement of needs 

  • Document Project Statement of Work (SOW) to include scope, project objectives, project deliverables,  sustainability goals, terms of payment, cost/ resources.

Stakeholders group

  • Identify and analyse key stakeholders, engaging stakeholders in sustainable project planning, focusing on sustainability (ESG) features- stakeholders sustainability expectations.

Sustainable governance

  • Design Sustainable project governance criteria and elements aligned to your new environmentally   product/service design.

Sustainable supply chain and procurement 

  • Prepare sustainable procurement criteria based on procurement principles, draw supplier’s assessment  matrix and consider circular economy & resource optimisation for your eco-friendly creative product/service. 

Sustainability risks 

  • Identify and analyse sustainability risks, assess the commercial, social, and environmental impacts of  sustainability risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Sustainability metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) 

  • Choose appropriate sustainability metrics and KPI’s for tracking progress & monitoring sustainability performance indicators during the implementation and monitoring phase of project. This should help  evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability practices throughout project execution. 

Life-cycle analysis: Measuring project impacts (Environmental, Social, Economic) 

  • Outline how to integrate LCA into the design and development of your eco-friendly product/service i.e. use LCA to design & develop a new eco-friendly product/service to minimise environmental impacts and meets  sustainability goals.

Any other points of your choice 

  • You can mention and explain any other elements of ESG criteria as a part of sustainable project plan and 
    design for your selected environment friendly creative product/service.

3.Conclusion (100 -150 words) 

  • A conclusion for a sustainable project plan of a new creative eco-friendly product/service should encapsulate the Key elements, objectives, and outcomes of the plan. It should highlight the commitment to sustainability, the comprehensive approach taken, and the anticipated positive project impacts such as Environmental, social, and economic core principles.

You will use appropriate academic literature (journals articles and conference papers and bona fide sources, government, official agency and major organisation/news reports) to support your findings. 

All data sources used will be Harvard Referenced.

Assignments should have around one reference per one hundred words and include a range of sources, as described above. Non-academic sources are not appropriate in a post-graduate report.

  • The report must be typed and printed in 'Times New Roman', the body of the report being font size 12pt.
  • The report should have 1.5 line spacing. 
  • All figures and diagrams must be appropriately numbered, referenced and with a text call out.

2. PRM22104 Part Two: Individual Process Map Video Presentation

Students should develop a detailed and comprehensive process maps using a digital project management tool. The process maps should visually represent project workflows, sustainability integration points such as material selection, waste reduction, community engagement, sustainable sourcing, and digital tool applications within project management. The process map for an individual presentation, including a narrative explaining each component of the map and how it contributes to sustainability and efficient sustainable project management. A video-recorded PowerPoint presentation link should be provided at the end of the report. The video presentation should be no longer than 10 minutes. 

The following guidelines can be used to develop the presentation:

  1. Select a digital project management tool that supports process mapping.
  2. Outline the project's objectives, deliverables, and sustainability goals.
  3. Break down the project into its core processes and sub-processes that need to be managed sustainably.
  4. Use the digital tool to visually represent the sequence and interaction of processes.
  5. Identify areas within the process where sustainability can be integrated, such as resource allocation  stakeholder engagement, waste management, and others.
  6. Identify where digital tools and technologies can enhance the sustainable management of the project.
  • The process map should include a minimum of 4-5 decision points or gateways to add complexity.
  • The process map should identify 3-5 stakeholders and clearly indicate the roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder at different touch points.
  • The process map should define a minimum of 5-6 touch points or interactions between stakeholders, systems, and/or departments.
  • The process map should identify and map the critical touch points where information, materials, or decisions are exchanged.
  • To add complexity students should define measurable targets or benchmarks for each metric or KPI.

Assess the process map for comprehensiveness and consistency, ensuring it captures all aspects of sustainable project management.

Conclusion:

This assessment brief aims to enable you to create and critically analyse the process map of a supply chain for a project and its application in the project-based businesses. It enables you to assess the available digital tools for project management and for the specific project processes. To understand and critique the sustainability credentials of a project, assessing the required and suitable sustainability initiatives with focus on the project organisations. To analyse and assess the project needs; appraise, apply, and manage the correct procurement strategies; and supplier relation strategies with special focus on the project-based organisations
