Research Question
- State your research question

Finding the Evidence
- State your search strategy and discuss the databases used to search
- Justify keywords
- Discuss the hierarchy of evidence
- Identify key evidence from your search relevant to your research question (Max 5 articles)
- From the evidence found (max 5 articles), review with hierarchy and identify the gap in the literature and align to your research question aims/objectives (see below)
- Remember and support your writing with evidence from the literature

Plan of Investigation
(Methods Section – note this is the main body of the assignment). We recommend the use of subheadings to structure your assignment.
- Research Question/Aims/objectives clearly state the research question/aims/objectives (i.e. align to research gap – see above)
- Research Approach/Design: clearly state the choice of research approach (qualitative or quantitative). State your research design and justify your specific research approach/designs compared to alternative research approaches/designs and state why appropriate or not appropriate to address the study question/aim
- Sampling Strategy: state the selected population for your study (e.g. patients or clients in a particular setting). Explain why these population/participants are appropriate. State what type of sampling procedures you will use, including details of the sample size – Discuss why your sampling strategy is appropriate to the research approach chosen.
- Data collection: state how you will collect the data. State how you will ensure your data is valid and reliable (quantitative) / trustworthy and credible (qualitative). Justify the appropriateness of your data collection methods using supporting references.
- Analysis: Identify approaches to data analysis that are compatible with the research design and data collection procedures; use evidence from the key research texts to justify these.
- Ethics: state what type of ethical approval is required, and that this would be sought prior to the study taking place. Support why this is important; use supporting references (key research texts). Think about how you would ensure confidentiality, anonymity, data protection and informed consent within your study
