NCO201 Group-Based Assignment (GBA)

This group-based assignment is worth 30% of the final mark for NCO201 Learn to Learn, Learn for Life.

You will be assigned to a group with a maximum of 6 members. For the group component of this assignment, the group leader will upload a single submission on Canvas on behalf of the entire group. The group should elect a group leader who will be responsible for this task.

Note to Students:   

1. You are to include the following particulars in your submission: Your Name, Course Code, Title GBA01, SUSS PI No., and Submission Date. 

2. Submissions must be in Microsoft Word document format (.doc, .docx) only. No other formats are allowed. 

3. Your answer to this assignment should be your original work, and no parts of it should come from other sources without proper references. Refer to the Student Handbook for details regarding plagiarism. Using course materials or any source without acknowledgement is considered plagiarism. “Using” includes borrowing ideas, arguments, and graphics, as well as directly quoting a source. In addition, you are not allowed to resubmit work that you have submitted for other courses or a previous enrolment in this course. If you have any questions about using sources ethically and responsibly, ask your instructor for clarification. Academic dishonesty will be penalised. 

4. You are required to keep copies of earlier drafts and work to use as evidence of original work.

Collaboration    

Working with people can be tricky, but it is an integral part of our lives. From school to work to the wider world,  collaboration and social-relational learning are key competencies for completing projects and assignments as well as honing our learn-to-learn skills.     

This assignment aims to sharpen your collaborative skills by having you work in a group to assess the capabilities of current generative AI tools and evaluate how best to use them in your learning journey. It also aims to improve your individual and group awareness by having you reflect on your experience working as a group.     

This assignment has three questions

Question 1

Choose one of the following topics:

  • Online learning and inclusivity; 
  • Screen time and attention;
  • Online games as learning tools; or
  • Social media and mental health.

1. Announcement #1

Use an Al platform(s) to generate an A4-sized infographic about your chosen topic. Your infographic must include:

A. A headline to catch the attention of your target audience; one main point that educates your target audience on the topic; relevant context that will help your audience understand the main point better.

B. The main myths that people commonly believe about this topic and current research and/or data that directly debunks these myths;

C. 2-3 suggestions for how your target audience may implement what they have learned from this infographic;

D. A balance of visual elements and text to make the topic accessible and help your target audience retain information. (You may also use an AI platform to generate the design of the infographic. But any announcement that is illegible in any part due to blurry text or incomprehensible script will receive 0 marks.)

II. Announcement #2 (200-400 words)

Use research articles, websites, government reports, and/or Al if you wish, to generate an original A4-sized infographic about your chosen topic. Your infographic must include:

A. A headline to catch the attention of your target audience; one main point to educate your target audience on the topic; relevant context that will help your audience better understand the main point.
(5 marks)

B. The main myths that people commonly believe about this topic and current research and/or data that debunks these myths;(5 marks)

C. 2-3 suggestions for how your target audience may implement what they have learnt from this infographic. (5 marks)

D. A balance of visual elements and text to make a topic accessible and help your target audience retain information. Tip: Avoid overloading your infographic with text and use a legible font size and text. (5 marks)

Question 2 (500–700 words)    

“Generative AI can be an effective learning tool, but only if _________”    

Explain two conditions that would make AI an effective learning tool. Support your answers with reasons and examples, based on the benefits, limitations, and ethical considerations that your group encountered when using AI to create the announcements.  (20 marks)  

Question 3 (600-800 Words)

A. Evaluate the effectiveness of two strategies that your group used to work together during the semester. For each strategy, include: your stand on its effectiveness, and relevant reasons and examples to support your stand. You may refer to your GBA work, in-class activities, group presentation, and the Qualtrics survey in Week 5 in your answer. (20 marks) 

B. Demonstrate two key insights from this group work experience that you can apply to future collaborative tasks. Your answer may refer to things that went well that you would like to replicate and/or ideas that, on hindsight, would have been good to implement to enhance team dynamics or task completion. Use relevant reasons and examples to support your discussion. (20 marks)

  • Clarity of writing. Refer to the rubric for more information. (10 marks)
  • Sources and Citations: Cite all sources, including AI content (use the table provided for Question 1’s cover page), to acknowledge where you have used other people’s ideas to support or substantiate your claims. (5 marks)
