NCO101 GROUP-BASED ASSIGNMENT (GBA01)

This assignment is worth 30% of the final mark for NCO101 Living with Community.

Note on Submission  

1. Each group is required to upload a single report via their respective seminar group site in Canvas. A group leader will be assigned. The responsibility of the group leader is to upload the report on behalf of the group.
2. Please include a cover page that indicates clearly the Course Code, Assignment, Submission Date and the full names and SUSS PI number of all group members (see below):

3. After the cover page, the submission will be arranged as such:  
a. Written Report 
b. Infographic 
c. References 
d. Individual Neighbourhood Worksheets   

4. It is the group’s collective responsibility to ensure all source materials, regardless of their medium, are acknowledged clearly and adhere to the correct formatting and style guidelines. Any use of AI must be acknowledged clearly, with a clear explanation of how generated outputs are used. Failure to do so may be interpreted as academic cheating and penalties could be imposed.

GBA01 Question

In  groups  of  three  (minimum)  to  five  (maximum),  compile  a  report  for  the  Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) that best represents the group’s collective position on the significant characteristics of community engagement in building inclusive and sustainable communities.

The GBA has the following components:  

a) Examine, Identify, and Discuss. Produce a 1,200 word Written Report [40 marks] that presents a summary of the following:

  • Examines the various types of communities and community engagement efforts across n number of neighbourhoods (n = number of group members). *Each member will research their chosen neighbourhood based on the guiding prompts provided in the worksheet template below. Any group member who does not complete their individual worksheet may receive no more than 50% of the final given GBA grade.
  • Identifies three common characteristics (e.g. physical spaces, programmes/activities, organizations etc.) from the above examination, which best represent the more successful community engagement efforts in building inclusive and sustainable neighbourhoods.
  • Discusses the significance of identified characteristics in building inclusive and sustainable neighbourhoods. Discussion must work towards the group’s collective position and must also explain the group’s position with reference to any relevant aspect(s) of the following required material(s):

    ➢ Any ONE NEXUS Video: Shared Folder Link  
    ➢ Any relevant aspect of URA’s Draft Master Plan: https://www.uradraftmasterplan.gov.sg/   

b) Develop an Infographic [30 marks]

that explains the group’s collective position on the significance of community engagement, i.e. the identified characteristics from 1a) that best support inclusive and sustainable communities. The infographic must be presented in a one-page infographic, A4-size, minimum font size 12.  

c) Mechanics [20 marks].

The Written Report and Infographic will also be assessed for originality, clarity, coherence, accessibility, e.g. use of relevant and appropriate use of language, graphics, etc., and related matters.  

  • References for infographic are to be combined with the references for your written report.  
  • Be aware that heavy or lazy use of GenAI tools to assist with any part of the GBA will affect its originality. All use of GenAI tools must be properly acknowledged in the Reference section. Original drafts, GenAI prompts/queries and their responses must be kept for record and follow-up if needed. 

d) GBA Deliverables [10 marks]. 

This component’s purpose is to assist learners to keep pace with the requirements of the GBA. The group will post on the designated Canvas T-Group Discussion Board threads the following:  

  • Project Schedule, Tasks Allocation, and Screenshot of Group Chat. Due 7 days after Seminar 1. *Standalone roles such as ‘group leader’, ‘meeting notetaker’ or ‘copyeditor/proofreader’, or merely turning up for meetings or responding to chats, do not count as actual contribution.  
  • Progress Update, which ideally comprises of a draft Written Report, draft Infographic, and all individual neighbourhood worksheets. All 3 portions of the progress update should be uploaded as attachments (Word or PDF, no Google Docs links) to post to the relevant Discussion Board. Due 48 hours before Seminar 3.
