A dynamic, global and technology driven business environment means the way organisations recruit is undergoing significant change. Trends in recruitment include: increased automation of the recruitment process, increase demand for a diverse range of candidates and more emphasis on transferrable skills, amongst others1 (Schidman et al. 2017).
Using the knowledge and skills developed through Assessment task 1 and the seminar activities, you will find a job position which aligns with your desired career path, research the organisation you are applying to, and write an application for that position. During the process of applying for this job you will reflect on your current learnings, experiences and skill development, and on the skills and knowledge you still need to develop to be career ready.
This assessment will help you prepare for the final assessment task (Task 3), your mock interview. All three assessments in this unit are designed to help you develop the skills needed to be career ready in a dynamic employment market. This is consistent with the Unit Learning Outcomes and Graduate Learning Outcomes.
Assessment 2 is comprised of four (4) key sections of content that you must address. These are: My Role and Organisation, My Application, My Professional Brand, and My Professional Insight Journey. In addition to these sections, you will be required to include references and appendices.
Section 1: My Role and Organisation
1a. Why this Role
Suggested word count: 100 words (approximately).
Specific requirements:
1. Find an internship or job opportunity that closely matches your desired employment path in your selected industry. (Note: If you are in first year or close to the start of your degree, please choose an internship or work experience role. If you are close to graduating, please choose a graduate role.)
2. Take a screenshot of your job advertisement and include the screenshot in your report.
3. Explain why you have chosen this role and how it aligns with your desired career path.
1b. Why this organisation
Suggested word count: 200 words (approximately).
Specific requirements:
Based on the organisation featured in the job ad supplied in Section 1a, answer the following question as if you are in the job interview: Why do you want to work for us? Note: When answering this question, you need to explain why you want to work for this organisation over all other organisations.
For example, you could consider:
i) The organisation’s market offering, location of operations, plans for the future and the relevant leaders of the organisation as well as the position you are applying for.
ii) The organisation’s culture and values, for example, their mission/vision, corporate culture and values (internal), their reputation (external)
iii) Relating your answer to yourself, for example how does the organisations values and culture and industry changes align with your values, strengths (Professional Dashboard) and desired career path? You must include references to support the information you have provided in your answer.

Reflecting upon your responses to the time capsule activity (week 1 Seminar, responses available under Quizzes), explain how your career direction or steps in career readiness have been confirmed or redirected because of activities in this unit. In what ways have your perceptions about your career and or career readiness evolved. Use examples from your studies in MWL101 and your time capsule activity to support your reflection.
