You should choose one global challenge, defined as a public problem of transnational scope, which is relevant to public management in a country with which you are familiar.
You should choose your global challenge according to your interests you and career plans. You should discuss your challenge with your tutor.
To complete the assessment task, you need upload a pre-recorded presentation that:
The presentation should be between 4 and 6 minutes in length and use no more than 5 PowerPoint slides.
You should record narration for each slide using the PowerPoint video recording feature and submit the narrated slides to the submission point on Moodle as a .pptx file.
In the seminars, we will discuss:
You will have the opportunity in the seminars to complete a ‘dry run’ of your presentation to get informal feedback from your tutor and peers. This is not assessed but you are encouraged to reflect critically on the feedback to help your deliver the best possible output that you can in the final PRES1 submission.
The rationale for this authentic assessment is to develop your critical perspectives on managing global challenges by building empirical knowledge of the problem which you will use as the basis of your policy report in WRIT1.
Length of presentation: 1000 words equivalent (see above)
Academic or technical terms explained:
Bloom’s Taxonomy
Knowledge (recall) is the ability to remember something
Comprehension (understand) means that you understand knowledge. In practice, this means you can explain the knowledge in terms of your existing learning and experience. This assessment requires you to explain why the problem you have selected is a global challenge.
Application (use) means doing after being shown how or ability to apply abstract concepts to particular known or novel situations. This assessment requires you to use different concepts from public management to identify the key actors and institutions in the management arrangements for your global challenge.
Evaluation (judge) is to give the value of something, to state its strengths and weaknesses.
The learning outcome ‘independently examine’ means can you analyse and create your own arguments. This assessment requires you to develop your own evaluation of the global public management arrangements for your global challenge.
