MODOO5910 Assessed Learning Outcomes

LO4. As a student, perform a reflective analysis on a critical incident that happened in your group during the 010 round table discussion using Gibbs' reflective cycle. Demonstrate the intellectual, practical, affective and transferable skills acquired from the module.

Additional Information on Writing Your Assignment

  • This assignment must be completed individually.
  • All courses of study must use the Harvard referencing system for written assessments, apart from LLB/LLM courses where OSCOLA should be applied.
  • Your work must include the total word count at the end of your essay. Written assignments MUST NOT EXCEED the specified maximum number of words. When a written assignment is marked, the excessive use of words beyond the word limit is reflected in the academic judgement of the piece of work, which results in a lower mark being awarded for the piece of work (regulation 6.74).
  • Assignment submissions are to be made anonymously. Do not write your name anywhere on your work.
  • Write your student ID number at the top of every page.
  • Where the assignment comprises more than one task, all tasks must be
  • submitted in a single document. You must number all pages.

MODOO5910 Submitting Your Assignment

  • To achieve full marks, you must submit your work before the deadline. Work that is submitted late - if your work is submitted on the same day as the deadline by midnight, your mark will receive a 10% penalty. If you submit your work up to TWO working days after the published submission deadline, it will be accepted and marked. However, the element of the module's assessment to which the work contributes will be capped with a maximum mark of 40%.
  • Work cannot be submitted if the period of 2 working days after the deadline has passed (unless there is an approved extension). Failure to submit within the relevant period will mean that you have failed the assessment.
  • Requests for short-term extensions will only be considered in the case of illness or other causes considered valid by the Director of the Studies Team. Please contact DoS@london.aru.ac.uk. A request must normally be received and agreed to by the Director of Studies Team in writing at least 24 hours before the deadline. Students will need to provide evidence to support their extension request. 
  • Exceptional Circumstances: The deadline for submission of exceptional circumstances concerning this assignment is no later than five working days after the submission date of this work. 

MODOO5910 Assignment Question

Task 1

Using Gibbs' (1988) model of reflection, provide an individual reflective account as a STUDENT on a critical incident you identified within your group when preparing for the presentation of your 010 assignment. Focus on your learning and development as a health and social care student.

Task 2

Provide 5 tabulated SMART goals to demonstrate how you will fulfil your chosen Health and Social Care studies.

Your reflective account should focus on:

  • How the 6 stages of Gibbs' reflective model were used to identify and analyse the critical incident.
  • An identification of your teamwork and individual contribution.
  • Be able to describe and explain the steps needed to achieve desired goals using the SMART table.

MODOO5910 Marking Criteria

Task 1

Performance of critical analysis-60 marks.

a) Students should demonstrate understanding of concepts and critical analysis concerning the scenario (including definition of reflection) - 10 marks.
b) Students should outline the stages of the Gibbs cycle and discuss their relevance and application within the chosen scenario -20 marks.
c) Students should explain the reasons and causes for the evidence relating to reflection - 10 marks.
d) Identify what didn't work well from the incident 20 marks.

Task 2

Provision of tabulated 5 SMART goals suited to health and social care students- 30 marks

a) Students should highlight some skills to work on, that might benefit their chosen profession in future throughout the essay, hence developing profession-specific targets. 10 marks
b) Students should demonstrate an understanding of SMART goals by providing a coherent and logical SMART goals table- 10 marks.
c) SMART goals should demonstrate how the student will develop the HSP skills up to a master's degree, considering the specific relevant time-bound aspects- 10 marks.

Task 3

Demonstration of academic skills; formatting and referencing 10 marks.
a) Students should demonstrate an understanding of academic writing (including academic tone) when performing critical reflective analysis.
b) Students should demonstrate the knowledge of Harvard referencing style - 10 marks.
