MGB133 Assignment 2: Dynamic Capabilities Assessment Group Presentation

In this assignment you will work as a part of a team to respond to the client brief. As a team you will provide a set of recommendations supported by evidence-based analysis. Your starting point will be to develop a shared understanding of the client organisation’s current business model. You will then design a way forward for the client organisation and revise their business model canvas to visualise the basic logic of how the organisation creates and delivers value while financially sustaining itself. Your pitch will provide the client with a set of recommendations that addresses their brief, explicitly explains what they need to do, how this impacts/changes their business model, and what the expected impact of your recommendations will be.

The assignment is worth 60% of your grade and consists of group marks (40%) and individual marks (20%).

What does the assignment involve?

In a team of peers from your tutorial, you will complete a consolidated Business Model Canvas (BMC) template for the client organisation. The template will help you to describe the organisation’s current value proposition and how it is influenced by (1) desirability, (2) viability, and (3) feasibility considerations. You will then develop a set of evidence-based recommendations to address the client brief. As a team, you will update the Business Model Canvas (BMC) to visualise the future stateof the organisation that shows how your recommendations change the organisation’s business model, how the various elements of the business model are impacted, and how this change enables the organisation to create and deliver value while financially sustaining itself. You will use your analysis to offer recommendations for the organisation. As a team you will deliver an oral presentation of your work.

This assignment will apply content covered in the online readings, lectures, and tutorials. You will be guided with the revision of the BMC and oral presentation during weekly tutorials.

How do I complete the assignment?

Work as a team

The assignment is a group assignment, and so involves teamwork. Your contribution to the team andits performance is assessable. As part of this, you should:

a) Form a team in your tutorial under the guidance of your tutor. You will need to inform your tutor (via email) who is in your team by no later than 9pm on April 2, otherwise we will randomly allocate you to a group.
b) Create a team contract using the template provided in Canvas (4 pages maximum, 12 point font, 1.5 line spacing). The contract should describe expectations for participation, communications, meetings, conduct, task allocation, and timelines. It should also identify strategies for managing conflict and consequences for team members not meeting their responsibilities. Each team member is required to sign the contract.
c) Submit a draft team contract via Canvas by the time/date noted in the Key Dates sectionof this document. Your tutor will provide feedback that will help you strengthen the contract.
d) Use your team contract to facilitate effective teamwork and to manage any disagreements.

Create a Business Model Canvas (BMC) – Current State

As a team, build a shared understanding of what the organisation’s business model is like now. Combine what you learnt from the first assignment to create a refined and agreed upon team version of the client organisation’s current business model. Working together like this facilitates diverse multiple viewpoints and synthesizes that insight onto the canvas so that as a team you may build upon each other’s ideas and insights. Capture the shared team understanding of the organisaiton’s current business model by completing a Business Model Canvas (BMC) using the supplied PowerPoint template (1 slide maximum, legible when printed in A3 landscape format). The questions listed on the template do not need to be included, but your answers should be in coherent sentences/bullets. References are not needed on the BMC.

Problem Identification and Solution Generation

As a team review the client brief and develop a shared articulation of the problem to be addressed. This will likely be an iterative process requiring revision and refinement. Generate a range of possible solutions. There are many potential solutions that could be implemented. There is no necessarily perfect or right answer – it is up to you as a team to use evidence-based decision making to select a solution you think is most appropriate. It is recommended that you discuss at least 2-3 competing solutions and provide an evidence-based rationale for your team’s solution.

Revise your Business Model Canvas (BMC) – Future State

Explain how your preferred solution(s) impacts on the value proposition and the supporting processes associated with desirability, viability and feasibility. Be sure to explicitly consider the inter dependencies that exist between the three processes and associated sections of the BMC. Conclude by highlighting the anticipated performance implications associated with the proposed changes. The questions listed on the BMC template do not need to be included, but your answers should be in coherent sentences/bullets. References are not needed on the BMC. Note that it is important to make it clear how the BMC has changed. Consider using different coloured text to highlight changes.

Present your recommendations as a Client Pitch

Findings from your analysis will be delivered via an oral presentation. Your pitch will provide the client with a set of recommendations that addresses their brief, explicitly explains what they need to do, how this impacts/changes their business model, and what the expected impact of your recommendations will be. You need to provide sufÏcient detail to create alignment around the recommendations, convince the client that action is necessary, and build client knowledge to understand what action to take to achieve the desired outcome. For this part of the assignment you should:

a) Develop a PowerPoint slide deck presentation as informed by your shared understanding of what the organisation’s business model is now (current state), and what the future business model should be (future state). Elements to consider including in your presentation are: i) recap the key challenge/situation, ii) alternative options considered and decision criteria utilized to evaluated options, iii) value proposition of your recommended option, and iv) implementation plan/schedule/timeline Finances/Costings/ROI Risks and mitigation. Your powerpoint Slide deck for client pitch can have a maximum of 15 slides (not including cover slide) which you can present to and up to 10 additional appendix slides which you can utilise in the question-and-answer component of the presentation.

b) Present your client pitch during your allocated time. Your team will have 15 minutes to present your pitch followed by 5 minutes of question and answer. Your presentation willbe live via zoom, and all team members must be present and play an active role in presenting and/or responding to questions.

Submit your work and perform a peer evaluation

Your work must be submitted in accordance with Key Dates noted in this document, and your team members must evaluate each other’s performance and contribution to the team.

To do this:

a) One team member per team must upload to Canvas, your finalised team contract, your completed business model canvases (Current and Future BMC), and the slide deck for your presentation.
b) You must individually complete a peer evaluation of all team members (including yourself) using the peer assessment tool via Canvas.

What are the formatÝng and stylistic requirements?

Where templates have been provided you should submit your work on those templates. For this assignment you should assume the audience is the senior management team of the case organisation. As such, it is recommended you use professional language and writing style and present your work in third person tense (usually more appropriate/objective than first person).

any written documents (e.g., your contract) should be in 12 point font with 1.5 line spacing. All key arguments and claims should be supported by appropriate evidence (this could be an information source or analysis). References are not needed in the BMC itself, however references should be provided for your PowerPoint presentation (final slide). Please use APA format for referencing.

How will the assignment be assessed?

The assignment will be assessed using a criterion referenced assessment (CRA) rubric that can be viewed in the submission portal (the page where you submit your assignment). The purpose of usinga CRA rubric is to assess student performance against relevant learning outcomes. As such, there is not always a direct correspondence between a specific element of the rubric and a particular sectionof the assignment. In addition to the presentation and your submitted materials, your performance for this assignment will also be assessed using the team contract and peer evaluation.

What is peer evaluation?

All team members are required to complete a peer evaluation to appraise the contribution of each team members, including your own contribution. This evaluation will be conducted via an online toolavailable through Canvas. Full details of the 1-10 rating scale will be provided via Canvas, however, the end points of the scale are shown below:

Lowest Score (1) Indicates a team member that did not make any contribution to the team and its performance.

Highest Score (10) Indicates a team member has been consistently enabled the team to fulfil its goals effectively. This team member has provided reliable, timely information and feedback to the team; has reliably completed work/task allocations within agreed timeframes; and proactively supported others within the team

Note: If you do not complete the peer evaluation and/or receive an average score of 1 from your group members, you will receive 0% for the assignment unless you have applied to HiQ andhave received special consideration for the assignment.
