MAN-40411 Assessment Brief 2025-26

Assessment Details:

Collaborate in self-assigned groups (3, 5, or 7 students, depending on cohort size) to propose a technology-driven solution for a tutor-provided business case. Each group will deliver their proposal via a recorded 15-minute group video presentation.

Module Learning Outcomes:

In this assessment, the following module learning outcomes will be assessed:

ILO1: Analyse how enterprise systems integrate across business functions to optimise operational workflows and decision-making.
ILO2: Design data-capture workflows using automatic identification technologies to improve accuracy in inventory and logistics
management.
ILO 3: Apply predictive analytics and automation techniques to streamline business processes and support data-driven decision-making.
ILO4: Critique the ethical, strategic, societal, and sustainability implications of deploying intelligent systems in modern business environments.

Presentation topics:

• Case study – Wright Rubber - a family business based in Burton-on-Trent, has invested in a state-of-the-art CNC digital cutting machine – its biggest single investment to date – to boost productivity, accuracy, and profitability.
• Case study – Tom Pearson s Sons Ltd - generation family business-based in Holmesfield, established in 1G08
• Case study - Rivelin Robotics – provides a faster, cheaper, and safer approach to finishing 3D-printed components
• Case study - Arden Dies - Stockport-based business manufactures cutting, embossing, and foiling tools
• Case study - Intellium AI - innovative AI tool transforms manufacturing workforce into citizen data scientists to achieve productivity and sustainability gains
• Case study - BAE Systems s Machine Intelligence - a software start-up provides AI-driven vision inspection tool with the potential to transform productivity, net zero and resilience in manufacturing
• Case study - HAL Robotics - provides an innovative self-learning robotic solution to reduce the barriers to adopting automation for finishing tasks
• Case study - DM² - provides an innovative digital approaches to accelerate the development, production and supply of pharmaceuticals using novel data-driven technologies.

Assessment Criteria:

• Topic relevance and core subject focus (20%)
• Application of theory and concepts (25%)
• Critical thinking and analytical Depth (25%)
• Structure, clarity, and delivery (15%)
• Originality and critical reflection (10%)
• Use of sources and referencing (5%)

Feedback to Students:

The students will be provided the detailed feedback on 21 Nov, 2025 in addition to the scoring.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI):

All students can use assistive AI tools to check spelling, grammar and punctuation (i.e., use of in-built spell checkers) in all written assessments excluding examinations and class tests, unless advised otherwise.

It includes, but is not limited to, the following: plagiarism; collusion; contract cheating; cheating in an examination; falsification of data or sources; falsification of official documents or signatures. The University treats academic misconduct very seriously and penalties will be given for proven cases, including termination of studies in serious cases. It is therefore very important that you understand how to prepare and take assessments honestly.
