Assessment Brief Overview
This assessment brief gives you an overview of the formative and summative assessments that are part of this module. The learning outcomes below will be tested in the assessment contained in this brief.
Module Learning Outcomes (LOs)
- Design a data analytics initiative as a project that addresses a defined problem
- Critically appraise research about a defined data analytics initiative
- Critically appraise the ethical issues associated with the design and development of a data analytics initiative.
- Critically evaluate the results of data analytics initiatives
- Create documentation about the design, development, and evaluation of a data analytics initiative.
- Critically reflect on the design and development of a data analytics initiative
Assessment Overview
In this assessment, you will be writing a report that is focused on exploring the academic research work you have completed as part of a larger data analytics project initiative (10,000 words, 100% of module mark, covering LOs 1-6). There will be two formative submissions; in the first (1,000 words), you will identify the overall intentions for your project in a Project Proposal, whilst the second (2,500 words) will allow you to receive feedback on your draft report.
In addition to this, you will submit a Terms of Reference form containing your project proposal to a deadline set out on the Hub. You will use your Project Proposal feedback to inform the submission of this form. This submission will be checked by an End Point Assessment Assessor to ensure the alignment of your proposed project to the End Point Assessment requirements.
Your final summative submission will be a maximum of 10,000 words.
All submissions are to be submitted to the relevant Turnitin links available on the module page in the Hub, to the deadline specified.
Submissions will follow the below order for this module:
- Formative Submission 1 – Project Proposal
- Submission - Terms of Reference Form
- Formative Submission 2 – Formative (Draft) Data Analytics Project Report
- Summative Submission – Final Data Analytics Project Report
Assessment Structure/Guidance
Formative Assessment 1 – Project Proposal
The formative Project Proposal (1,000 word limit) is critical in setting the parameters for the project. It requires you to develop a clear outline of the proposed project, which identifies the background for the project, its objectives, the key deliverables, the project scope, and the consideration of ethical and security issues.
Your Project Proposal outlines the project that you will carry out, and that project will have two assessments linked to it; your 10,000-word academic assessment for your Data Analytics Project (the focus of this assessment brief) and additionally your 10,000 word End Point Assessment Project Report, which comes after your gateway call with your coach
You should, therefore, ensure you are thinking about how your project could allow you to cover the EPA Project Report KSBs after you complete this DAP module. You can find a full list of these KSBs in the LMDC module on the Hub, titled ‘EPA Project Report – KSB Mapping’.
Your proposed Project Proposal should contain the following sections:
1. Background
Summarise the relevant background information that led to this project’s initiation.
2. Objectives
Specify a number of objectives (3-4 SMART objectives) that this project intends to achieve.
3. Deliverables
Describe up to 4 deliverables (e.g., software, spreadsheets, databases, models) that will be produced during this project.
4. Scope
Briefly summarise the relevant constraints on the scope of this project.
5. References
List the references that you used in your proposal. These support the justification for the project that you have set out.
Terms of Reference Form Submission
The Terms of Reference form is an apprenticeship requirement that is sent to the End Point Assessment Organisation to check that your project meets the EPA Project Report KSB requirements and to sign off for you to carry out the project. This is because your project will have both the DAP Report and the EPA Report linked to it. The focus for now is on your DAP Report.
For this submission, you need to download a copy of the Terms of Reference form in the Hub on the DAP module page and complete it using your Project Proposal (previously submitted). You should consider any feedback provided by your tutor in the Project Proposal feedback, and you should ensure your project aligns with the End Point Assessment KSBs, as mentioned in the Project Proposal submission above.
You must ensure you have your Terms of Reference form signed by yourself, your line manager, and your supervisor before submitting to Turnitin by the deadline set out on the Hub.
Formative Assessment 2 – DAP Report Draft
Your report draft (2,500 word limit) is a key stage in your project, to allow you to demonstrate your existing progress with your project, and to allow you to get formal feedback on your project approach.
Your draft should follow the structure of the summative assessment described below. Important elements that should be included in your draft are (at a minimum):
- Background/Literature Review
- Problem Analysis / Requirements (applied) or Research Design and Methods (research)
- You may also want to highlight areas of the project where you feel your progress has not been sufficient and identify potential mitigation approaches that you are considering
- References to relevant literature
