Assessment 2: Group Assignment 

Your group project involves a real-world challenge proposed by eBusiness Software Services. In this project, you will work with your team members to develop a digitally-enabled solution for an organisational problem.

Important Information

IMPORTANT NOTE on File-Sharing Websites – PLEASE READ 

Some file-sharing websites specialise in buying and selling academic work to and from university students. 

You should be aware that you would be committing plagiarism if you download a piece of work from these websites and present it as your own, either wholly or partially. For more information about Academic Integrity and Plagiarism, please click here. 

If you upload your original work to these websites and if another student downloads and presents it as their own either wholly or partially, you might be found guilty of collusion, even years after graduation.  

These file-sharing websites may also accept the purchase of course materials, such as copies of lecture slides and tutorial handouts.  By law,  the copyright on  course materials,  developed by  UNSW  staff in the course  of their employment, belongs to UNSW. It constitutes copyright infringement, if not plagiarism, to trade these materials.

Turnitin 

Turnitin is an originality checking and plagiarism prevention tool that enables checking of submitted written work for improper citation or misappropriated content. Each Turnitin assignment is checked against other students' work, the Internet and key resources selected by your Course Coordinator. 

If you are instructed to submit your assessment via Turnitin, you will find the link to the Turnitin submission in your Moodle course site. You can submit your assessment well before the deadline and use the Similarity Report to improve your academic writing skills before submitting your final version.

Use of Generative AI 

As this assessment task involves some planning or creative processes, you are permitted to use software to generate initial ideas. However, you must develop or edit those ideas to such a significant extent that what is submitted is your work, i.e., only occasional AI-generated words or phrases may form part of your final submission. It is a good idea to keep copies of the initial prompts to show your lecturer if there is any uncertainty about the originality of your work.

If you use any Generative AI chatbot websites for assistance (per the guidelines stated above), you have to make it clear how you use the generated output from Genai. Without clearly stating how the output is used will be regarded as serious academic misconduct and subject to the standard penalties. 

If the outputs of generative AI (such as Chatgpt) form a part of your submission, it will be regarded as serious academic misconduct and subject to the standard penalties, which may include 00fl, suspension and exclusion.  

Viva Voce 

Any student may be called upon to provide a viva voce (from the Latin meaning ‘living voice’) for any assignment. A viva voce is an interview-style meeting where you will be asked to explain, discuss, or use information related to any assignment or work produced for this course. These can be used to ascertain knowledge and ability, including the extent to which the student has undertaken the required reading, done preparatory work and can demonstrate understanding of what they have written or presented. Viva voce is used in conjunction with submitted assessment work, not instead of submitted work. (used with permission - created by Assoc Prof Lynn Gribble, UNSW Sydney)

Late Submissions 

The parameters for late submissions are outlined in the UNSW Assessment Implementation Procedure. For INFS2603, if you submit your assessments after the due date, you will incur penalties for late submission unless you have Special Consideration (see below). Late submission is 5% per day (including weekends), calculated from the marks allocated to that assessment (not your grade). Assessments will not be accepted more than 5 days late. 

Extensions 

You are expected to manage your time to meet assessment due dates. If you do require an extension to your assessment, please make a request as early as possible before the due date via the special consideration portal on myunsw (My Student profile > Special Consideration). You can find more information on Special Consideration and the application process below. Lecturers and tutors cannot grant extensions. For group assignments, Groups are expected to plan and be able to balance out a missing member without an extension. An extension is very unlikely to be granted for groups. 

Special Consideration 

Special consideration is the process for assessing the impact of short-term events beyond your control (exceptional circumstances) on your performance in a specific assessment task. What are the circumstances beyond my control? These are exceptional circumstances or situations that may: 

• Prevent you from completing a course requirement,  
• Keep you from attending an assessment,
• Stop you from submitting an assessment,
• Significantly affect your assessment performance.  

Available here is a list of circumstances that may be beyond your control. This is only a list of examples, and your exact circumstances may not be listed.

Professional Teamwork 

You will be working in Teams. If you do not join your team, you are still expected to complete the assignment in full, and no allowance in marking standards is made for the fact that the assignment becomes a solo effort in this case. 

Teams must plan, schedule and conduct activities in due time. Teams must meet regularly (at least once per week) while the assignment is being undertaken and keep a timestamped record (personal diaries, meeting minutes) of such meetings. The teams must ensure that all members are involved in the completion of the assignment. The work is to be divided equally among the team members. 

All team members are expected to behave professionally. Team members must treat fellow team members with politeness and respect. 

All team members are expected to work diligently. Team members should contribute in a useful and constructive way to the teamwork. Deadlines should be kept and work should be delivered at a professional standard. 

 If problems emerge in your team, then these problems should in the first instance openly discussed in the team (different members might have different views) and resolutions should be agreed on. If internal arrangements repeatedly fail to remedy the situation, then you should bring the issues to the attention of the LIC. The LIC may call a meeting of the team in which each team member will be asked to describe in detail his or her input into the assignment and provide supporting documentation of this effort (e.g., individual diary, team diary, meeting notes, emails, texts labelled with author names). If team members are found to be making inadequate effort or delivering poor quality, then they will be counselled to improve their efforts. If sufficient improvement is not made despite team efforts and LIC interventions, then the mark of underperforming team member(s) may be moderated to reflect the relatively lower input into the assignment. Note that the inability to resolve conflicts without involving the LIC does not reflect well on the team’s project management and teamwork skills.
