The nursing profession is shaped by historical, social, and regulatory developments that influence the standards of care, professional behaviour, and patient safety. One of the most significant frameworks guiding nursing practice today is the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Code of Conduct for Nurses, which establishes ethical, legal, and professional expectations for practitioners. This assignment requires students to critically examine the role of professional Code of Conduct in shaping contemporary nursing practice, particularly in relation to patient safety and quality care. 

By engaging with this assessment, students will develop an understanding of how professional code have evolved, their impact on nursing professionalism, and their role in maintaining high standards of care. The assignment also provides an opportunity to explore real-world applications of these code in clinical practice, fostering critical thinking, and ethical awareness.

Assignment questions: 

• Explain the purpose and significance of the Code of Conduct for Nurses (300 words).
• Identify two (2) key areas of the Code of Conduct and discuss how each area has influenced the delivery of safe, quality patient care in nursing practice (500 words).

You are required to provide references to support your response to both questions, using APA 7th referencing style including in-text citations. 

Purpose: 

This assessment will help you to demonstrate Unit Learning Outcome 1: Outline the Evolution of Nursing as a Profession. Undertaking this task will also help you to develop skills in locating and utilising evidence, and in writing for an academic audience.
