HI6034 Individual Assignment: 

Purpose of the assessment

The purpose of this assignment is to critically assess the role of enterprise systems in supporting an organization's business strategy, processes, and requirements while effectively communicating these insights to various stakeholders. 

The assignment covers the following Unit Learning Objectives:

  1. Examine and communicate to a range of stakeholders the role of enterprise systems in supporting the business strategy, business drivers, and business requirements of an organisation;
  2. Critically evaluate the integrative role of enterprise systems in supporting business processes and automating and managing the associated transactions within the organisational context;
  3. Critically analyse the challenges associated with implementing enterprise systems and their impacts on organisations and the various stakeholders;
  4. Interpret and critique future trends of ERP systems and associated technologies to address the increasingly complex and evolving environments of businesses in local and global settings.

Individual Assignment Guidelines and Specifications

This assessment is designed to improve student research and writing skills and to give students experience in researching literature on a specific topic relevant to the subject matter of the unit of study. Students will be expected to complete a critique and conduct a literature review on a contemporary Enterprise System issue as determined by the unit coordinator. A student will be required to research a problem and identify how it impacts Enterprise Systems, as well as propose appropriate approaches to address this issue.

Assignment Description

This assessment requires individual completion. Students are expected to complete a critique and conduct a literature review to discuss a contemporary issue that an IS professional may experience and identify appropriate approaches to address this issue. The topic is "The Role of Artificial Intelligence-Driven Cloud Platforms in Enhancing Enterprise Systems Agility and Decision-Making".

Students could explore:

How Alembedded in cloud-based ERP systems impacts implementation success

The influence on organizational agility and responsiveness

  • Challenges in data governance, security, and change management
  • Case examples from industries adopting SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Oracle Cloud ERP, etc.
  • Each student needs to search the literature and find at least ten (10) academic research papers (references) related to this topic. (Academic papers can be found in ProQuest. ProQuest instructions are available on BB).
  • The final submission must comply with the structure and draw heavily on the ten references selected. The structure of the final submission is headings, and in the discussion, critically analyse each reference and in-depth discuss how these references reflect the proposed topic. The structure of the final report is given below:

This needs to show a logical listing of all the subheadings of the paper's contents. Note this is excluded from the total word count.

1. Introduction
Typically, the introduction is a short paragraph that includes the paper's background, scope,purpose, and objectives. There should be a brief conclusion statement at the end of the introduction.

2. Discussion (Main Body Paragraphs with Numbered Sub-headings)
Present a critical analysis of the references and provide in-depth discussions.

3. Conclusion
Summarise your findings, emphasizsing the key points of the paper.

4. References
Provide the list of references following the Adapted Harvard Referencing Rules. 

5. Appendices
This section includes any additional explanatory information, which is supplementary and graphical, to help communicate the main ideas made in the report. Refer to the appendices in the main body paragraphs as and where appropriate. (Note: this is excluded from the total word count.)

The final submission should be no less than 2500 words. Your literature review should present the state of current knowledge in the specific area of your topic and should have a narrative that flows from one paragraph to another.

Student Assessment Citation and Referencing Rules

Holmes has implemented a revised Harvard approach to referencing. The following rules apply:

  1. Reference sources in assignments are limited to sources that provide full-text access to the source's content for lecturers and markers.
  2. The reference list must be located on a separate page at the end of the essay and titled: "References".
  3. The reference list must include the details of all the in-text citations, arranged A-Z alphabetically by author surname with each reference numbered (1 to 10, etc.) and each reference MUST include a hyperlink to the full text of the cited reference source. For example:
    1. Hawking, P., McCarthy, B. & Stein, A. 2004. Second Wave ERP Education, Journal of Information Systems Education, Fall
  4. All assignments must include in-text citations to the listed references. These must include the surname of the author/s or name of the authoring body, year of publication, page number of the content, and paragraph where the content can be found. For example, "The company decided to implement an enterprise-wide data warehouse business intelligence strategy (Hawking et al., 2004, p3(4))."

Non-Adherence to Referencing Rules

Where students do not follow the above rules, penalties apply:

  1. For students who submit assignments that do not comply with all aspects of the rules, a 10% penalty will be applied.
  2. As per the Student Handbook, late penalties will apply each day after the student/s as been notified of the due date.
  3. Students who comply with rules, BUT their citations are 'fake', will be reported for academic misconduct.

Collusion Working with one or more other individuals to complete an assignment, in a way that is not authorized.
Copying Reproducing and submitting the work of another student, with or without their knowledge. If a student fails to take reasonable precautions to prevent their own original work from being copied, this may also be considered an offence.
Impersonation Falsely presenting one self, or engaging someone else to present as oneself, in an in-person examination.
Contract cheating Contracting a third party to complete an assessment task, generally in exchange for money or other manner of payment.
Data fabrication and falsification Manipulating or inventing data with the intent of supporting false conclusions, including manipulating images
