Individual Assignment 1:

Counselling Video (40%)

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to allow you to practice and demonstrate your understanding and application of basic counselling skills, including attending, active listening, reflection of content and feelings, questioning, and summarising.

You will also write a personal reflection based on the questions provided. The purpose of this assignment is to reflect on how various aspects of yourself can impact your role as a counsellor and to develop a plan to capitalise on your strengths and handle potential issues.

Requirements

Deliverable 1 (20%)

You will be assigned a volunteer to participate in a role-play scenario where they will present an issue or problem they are facing. It is best that the ‘client’ presents an issue that is not too personal or complex to ensure that you are able to handle the counselling session.
For example, issues can be related to stress management, time management, procrastination, or conflict at work. The volunteer must sign a consent form before you start recording (download the Informed Consent Form that is to be used, from Polite Mall).
Record yourself demonstrating basic counselling skills while interacting with the volunteer.

The recording should be about 20 minutes in length. The session should be spontaneous, continuous, non-rehearsed, and not scripted.
Provide a transcript of the recording with descriptions and explanations of the skills used (see form below). You may use MS Teams to assist with transcription, and your tutor will share more details during tutorials. Note that only the “Process Comments” you include in the transcript will be assessed.

Individual Assignment 2:

Workplace Counselling Case Study Analysis (35%)

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the course to analyse a workplace counselling case study and develop a counselling plan.

Requirements

Deliverable 1: Case Study (25%)

1. Analyze the given case study using the skills and knowledge learned in the course. This should include the following steps:
a. Identify the issues and concerns presented in the case study.
b. Determine the goals of counselling for the client in the case study.
c. Select and explain a counselling approach that could be effective in addressing the client’s issues.
d. Develop a counselling plan that includes specific techniques, interventions, and strategies to address the client’s issues and support them at work
e. Discuss any ethical considerations that need to be addressed in the counselling plan.

2. Create a slide presentation that summarizes your analysis and counselling plan.
Naming convention: Full name_Presentation
For example: ChrisMartin_Presentation
