This assignment constitutes 100% of the grade for this module.

Instructions

1. The coursework should be your work and typed in your own words. Any typing mistakes will be subject to negative marking

2. The assignment will be checked for plagiarism. Any plagiarism or copying from others will be dealt with according the UCLan's plagiarism procedures. A similarity (plagiarism) level higher than 10% will be considered highly suspicious

3. The whole report should be 4000 words and include accompanying material such as technical diagrams, photos, lab report, self-reflection, wider application of the practical tasks, etc. Any references to materials should be given in standard Harvard or Vancouver format.

4. Your assignment must be submitted electronically through Moodle before the deadline. No other means of submission will be accepted.

5. Drawings can be produced by hand or electronically. They can either be scanned/copied into your document

6. Any late submission, but within the five working days of the original deadline, will be awarded a mark of 40%. Assignments submitted after five working days of the original deadline will be awarded a mark of 0%

7. Students with special needs will be addressed on an individual basis (Candidates that may require any special requirements will be dealt with one-on-one basis, which must be discussed with the module lead before the due date).

8. Portfolio laboratory sheets will be made available on MOODLE.

First Sit Coursework Brief

Your task is to complete the portfolio exercise sheet under the Assignment folder on Moodle before the deadline for any of the five practical exercise topics from the ten practical exercises in the list provided below.

Practical Task 1 - Welding workshop
Practical Task 2 - Traditional manufacturing workshop
Practical Task 3-Control Lab
Practical Task 4 - Pneumatic and Hydraulic Lab
Practical Task 5 - Electrical circuits
Practical Task 6 - Robotic arm
Practical Task 7 - Material tensile testing
Practical Task 8 - CNC workshop
Practical Task 9 - 3D printing lab
Practical Task 10 - Thermo-fluid lab

Your write-up must cover the following points:

1. Health and safety for each session.
2. Write-up on the Practical task - Procedure or steps to complete the chosen practical
task in your own words with the aid of diagrams and images
3. Reflection or self-audit on the chosen practical task for relevant application in engineering, in line with the selected course of study.
4. Example of minimum two industrial applications for each chosen practical task/laboratory session
5. To highlight the wider industrial applications and technical aspects of the practical tasks you have done. Further research is expected into the wider implications and context of the practical task you have done
6. Be sure to reference any pictures or links to information you have researched; do not copy material as your work
7. All the above items should focus on addressing your module 

Portfolio Marking Scheme:

The required portfolio includes five (5) parts. Each report should show the following:

• Introduction of laboratory and experiment, including the main tasks of the lab and the purpose of the experiment (2 marks)
• Description of equipment illustrating the used equipment with the photos and specifications (5marks)
• Procedure of experiment showing the steps of work (5 marks)
• Occupational Health and Safety, representing the procedures and tools of OHS during the experiment (2 marks)
• Outcomes of the experiment expressing the knowledge and experiences gained during work (6 marks)

Total 20 marks for each part
