Assessment Brief
The assignment for this module is to bring an idea for developing your own business. The idea can relate to introducing an innovation, recognising an opportunity, diversifying activities, or developing capabilities for the business considered. The idea must be agreed with your tutor.
For this assignment, you are expected to combine a variety of items (mind maps, benchmarks, personal development plans, etc.) that you consider relevant to meet your aims. The assessment activity will consist of approximately 3750 words equivalent. Please note that direct quotes and abstracts are included in the word count. Tables and appendices are outside of the word count. It is expected that Enterprise and entrepreneurship theory, models and frameworks are integrated throughout your work. Your assignment must be completed in PebblePad, no other format will be accepted.
PebblePad is an online platform that helps users to create, compile and present a collection of information and digitalised artefacts. This means that you can use a variety of formats for this assignment (charts, tables, prose, slides, videos, audio, images etc.). You are allowed to produce up to 3 videos with 3 minutes maximum of content for each. Do discuss what you intend to use with your tutor.
In addition, you are expected to deliver a "pitch" presentation of your project in class. (This is not assessed!). The "pitch" will build on previous class activities and students should use it as a chance to obtain additional feedback from your tutor to help you shape your assignment.
You should ensure that each of the following areas is considered:
Introduction - introduction to the assignment (written), introduction to me (video) not included in word count, introduction to the idea (audio, video or text)
Idea - background to the idea, relevance of this idea to my knowledge, skills and experience, link to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). this section should include secondary research and theory e.g. opportunity recognition, innovation, entrepreneurial motivation, link to self (reflection), blue ocean.
Contextual analysis - discuss x number of the following topics about your idea (make some compulsory and others elective): geopolitics, geography, social trends, competition/substitutes, customers, technological advancement, demographic trends, environment / green issues, SDGs. This area should include secondary research and a competitor analysis.
Implementation - what do you need to do to get started? People - skills, knowledge, physical resources, financial resources. Main barriers. Include Networks and networking. Responsible Business practices, and business model innovation.
Conclusion - can the idea be taken forward as it is or should it be amended to take a phased approach? Reflection - what has this taught me about myself?
