The student will submit a short (800 word) outline of their planned policy brief, based on a new topic and new SDG 4 target. The concept note will summarise a key educational challenge or issue linked to a chosen SDG 4 target, which will be addressed in the new policy brief (see below). The concept note will provide a rationale for the topic, identify the intended audience, and highlight key messages.
The concept note will also list planned evidence and at least six key sources of evidence (i.e. academic references, evaluation reports, and/or published statistical information). Guidance on the content of this concept note is provided in the Assessment Guidance and during class tutorials. The concept note should clearly stick to the word limit and be presented in a readable style, NOT only lists or bullet points.
The student will produce a policy brief, written in accessible language, that reviews critically a current educational challenge linked to one of the SDG 4 targets. The brief will analyse and present evidence and examples of what works (or doesn’t work) and makes recommendations for policy and/or practice.
The brief will identify a target audience (e.g. education ministry, national policymakers and/or national non-governmental organizations, donor agencies, or other key decision-makers). The brief will be designed to influence the policy-making and practice of the intended audience. It will be evidence based and cite relevant sources and/or the latest data available. All sources should be included in a bibliography.
In the case of reassessment, the student should choose a new topic for a new SDG4 target – different from the topic presented in the first policy brief submitted
