D/618/5039 – Unit 6 Assessment Brief and Guidance:

Guidance:This assignment 1 is where you come up with your plan that informs your future primary research. This is an individual work and you are required to submit a Project Management Plan on the following topic: “Talent Management”Talent management (TM) is the process by which businesses and organisations recognise anddevelop talented people who can have a positive impact on their organisations and their productivity. It not only has become a key component of human resource management but also the responsibility ofleaders and managers at all levels to manage talent within the business, with TM strategies beingdeveloped in line with the particular needs and structure of the business and industry.

Themes   of TM relevant to businesses when considering a strategic approac to talentmanagement include the following:

  • The role of line managers and leaders in employee development and well-being; 
  • Talent management being used as a lever for culture change; 
  • The importance of contextualising approaches to talent management; 
  • The need for new and innovative ways of working to achieve a strategic approach to talentmanagement; 
  • Barriers for the development of a strategic approach caused by economic and day-to-dayoperational pressures.

In today’s highly competitive business environment, people are the most valuable asset of anyorganization. Staff retention, training and morale is key in any industry where talented motivatedemployees can help differentiate one organisation from another and influence business success. Anincreasing number of businesses are rethinking ways to get the most from their staff. Rising costs,recruitment difficulties and changing employee attitudes   mean   that, for many employers, thetraditional approaches to recruiting, training and retaining staff are being revisited to harness anddevelop talent and ultimately drive competitive advantage.

Students are required to choose one topic from the list below and determine which type of projectwould be most appropriate for a small-scale research study.

  1. What talent strategies do the best companies use to attract and retain people? 
  2. What are the key challenges and obstacles facing different business sectors in terms of talentmanagement? (select one business sector e.g. marketing, finance, operations, manufacturing). 
  3. How are companies responding to managing talent across different age profiles? 
  4. How do different cultures influence the talent management approaches taken by companies?

ASSIGNMENT 1:

Project Management Plan will include  Scope (including aims and objectives), Milestones, WBSand GANTT chart,Resources and Costs Management, Quality Management and RiskManagement plan, and, finally Communication plan. 

Then, you also need to provide an overview of research methods that informs your primary research.Because this part is an overview, you need to provide the theoretical contents.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Your assignment 1 should not exceed 3000 words (excluding references and any Appendix). 
  • It is compulsory to specify the wordcount below the title of assignment 1.Note: the similarity rate for this module is 25%. You need to submit the work via Moodle.
  • Late work: You cannot submit your work later than the assigned date.

Submission format and Instructions:

  • This is an individual assessment.
  • The submission format is in the form of a written assignment.
  • The assignment should have a cover page that includes the assignment code, number, tittle,assessors’ names and student’s name and ID. A content sheet with a list of all headings and pagenumbers should be added.
  • Ensure that authenticity declaration has been signed.
  • This assignment should be written in a concise, formal business style using  Arial 11 or TimesNew Roman 12 font size and 1.5 spacing.
  • Full copies of questionnaires, all other instrumentation, and an Excel file containing all yourdata are to be included in your research report (in the Appendix).
  • All  documents   and your  research   report should contain  in-text   references  and a  list of anyreferences used.
  • Use the Harvard referencing system. Please refer to Reference guide on Moodle.
  • Plagiarism   is  unacceptable.   Students   must   cite   all   sources   and   input   the   information   byparaphrasing, summarising or using direct quotes. If you are caught plagiarizing, Universitypolicies and procedures will apply. A Referral Grade is given when Plagiarism is identified inyour work. There are no exceptions.
  • You must submit only a soft-copy of your research report before deadline via Moodle/Turnitin.Late assignments WILL NOT be accepted.
