Assessment Brief

Instructions to learners:

• You are required to compile a collection of work over this term.  
• This collection must demonstrate a clear and in-depth knowledge of the theoretical and practical skills associated with effective team leadership.
• To complete sections 3 and 5, you must refer to the Team Building event that your team was assigned to deliver to your class:
  oSee attached instructions.
• Evidence must be typed up using Ms Word.  Include your name in the title of this document
• All sourced information must be referenced correctly.
• On completion, you must upload your own assignment to Teams.

Generative AI tools are restricted for certain functions in this assessment task. In this assessment, you can use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to carry out brainstorming and initial research for an overview of the topic only. Any use of generative AI must be appropriately acknowledged and you must analyse AI generated outputs for accuracy. 

Task to be completed:

Include and Introduction, Conclusion and Bibliography

1) Explore the elements and stages of team development to include:

• Present 3 definitions of Team (with references), choose the one you prefer and explain why? Give examples of team types in your vocational area
• Describe the characteristics of an effective team and both the strengths and weaknesses of the team in your own experience
• Identify the stages of team development referring to a theorist (eg Tuckman)
• Explore the varied roles played by team members referring to one theorist (eg Belbin)- Identify your own role in a team (Include snapshot of Online Team Role Test)

2) Analyse leadership and management concepts, styles, and underpinning theories:

• Explain the following leadership theories 
• Trait theory 
• Contingency or situational school
• Choose your preferred definition of Management and explain why you’ve chosen it. 
• Distinguish three key differences between leadership and management. 
• Explore the results of your leadership style questionnaire in terms of how you are most likely to deal with a staff member who is consistently late. 
• Which leadership style would you like to incorporate more of? Why? and what would you need to do differently to embrace that style

3) Clear understanding of organisation strategy, objectives, and goals

• Outline the purpose of an organisational strategy
• Outline the purpose and function of organisational goals
• Examine the need for objectives and policies within your vocational area
• Discuss what contributes to successful and unsuccessful management within your vocational area

Section 4 &5 – Refer to your Team building event undertaken

4) You must provide a clear description of all stages of planning, monitoring and evaluation

As part of this module, you planned, organised, and facilitated a Team Building workshop. (Charades, Bingo, Class Quiz)

• Name the 4 stages of project management
• What are three critical tasks that you as a manager need to make happen at each stage
• Name of your team project
  oWhat was the aim for the project? 
  oSet out 4 objectives
• Discuss how you motivated each other in the team
• Outline how you propose to evaluate your project

5) Critical reflection and evaluation of personal effectiveness as Team Leader to include: 

• Evaluate the team activity you participated in.
• Consider the success of the team (minimum of 2), the strengths (minimum of 2), weaknesses (minimum of 2) of the team and the knowledge and skills acquired (minimum of 2).
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the team leader

Assessment Criteria:

Please note (taken from the College Attendance and Participation Policy):

1. You are expected to comply with all coursework deadlines.  You will submit all coursework digitally using either Microsoft Teams or email as agreed with your teacher.
2. When you submit coursework by the draft deadline date, you will receive feedback from your class teacher within two weeks.  You will not receive feedback if you miss the agreed draft deadline date unless an extension has been granted.
3. All coursework to be presented for Certification must be submitted to the class teacher on or before the final deadline.
4. If you need an extension (more time to complete coursework – draft or final deadlines) you must apply using the Extension Request form. This form is available online on the NCC Learner Teams Page.  Your teacher will consider the application and reply within 24/48 hours. You should submit a request for an extension as far in advance of the deadline as possible.
5. All work submitted must be your own and not copied from any other source (including another learner).  You must provide proper references with all work (as per College Referencing Guidelines), to show where information was obtained.
