Students are required to develop a case study informed by their practice placement experiences. Students must select an individual service user case, then apply and justify a therapeutic approach based on their learning acquired during the module. The analysis should incorporate theory, ethics, supervision, and professional reflective practice, aligning with the Standards of Proficiency for Social Care Workers as outlined by the Social Care Workers Registration Board.

The Assignment Should Cover the following Key Areas:

Organisational Context (Minimum 300 words)

  • Describe the setting in which the social care intervention would take place (e.g., residential care, community-based services, family support, mental health services, etc.).
  • Identify the target population and the specific needs regarding relevant research of service users within this context.
  • Discuss relevant policies, frameworks, and legislation guiding social care work in this setting.

Genogram of the Person Involved (Minimum 250 words, including visual representation)

  • Create a genogram to visually represent the service user’s family and social relationships.
  • Analyse how familial and social dynamics influence the service user’s experience and therapeutic needs.

Therapeutic Intervention Approach (Minimum 700 words)

  • Identify the chosen therapeutic intervention (e.g., Trauma-Focused CBT, Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, etc.). Link the intervention to relevant theories and models of practice.
  • Justify the selection of this intervention in relation to the needs of the service user.
  • Review recent literature and evidence-based research supporting the use of the chosen therapeutic approach.
  • Discuss the efficacy and limitations of the intervention.
  • Compare and contrast findings from different sources to support the application of the approach in social care settings. 

Implementation of the Approach: Techniques and Skills (Minimum 400 words)

  • Planning: Explain how you would plan the chosen therapeutic approach in practice.
  • Implementation: Detail specific techniques and skills required (e.g., active listening, cognitive restructuring, creative expression, motivational interviewing, etc.).
  • Evaluation: Discuss how the intervention aligns with evidence-informed practice in social care.

Expected Outcomes (Minimum 250 words)

  • Outline the short-term and long-term goals of the intervention.
  • Describe indicators of positive change and how progress will be assessed.
