Assessment Title

Research proposal (2000 words) and draft ethics application (completed application form with appropriate appendices)

Things to include:

The research proposal should include title, introduction (background, problem statement, aim, objectives, research questions), literature review, methodology/method, schedule (Gantt chart and narrative), reference list

Ethics form should be completed according to the planned type of research. For primary data collection a

 

consent form and a participant information sheet, copy of data collection instrument should also be included.

Access request letter may also be required. For secondary data collection  a data source form should be completed.

Assessment Title

Research Project Final Report (6,000 words and appendices) and Approved Ethics Form (with appendices)

Things to include:

The final report should include title, abstract, introduction (background, problem statement, aim, objectives, research questions), literature review, methodology/methods,findings/analysis/ discussion, conclusions, reflective account, and a reference list.

For a systematic review style report the literature review should be combined with the findings/analysis/discussion and placed after the methodology/methods chapter.

Appendices should include the proposal, and the ethics form along with all appendices approved by the assigned tutor. Appendices may also include software output, examples of redacted textual analysis, visual data, links to videos where applicable. You must include a copy of the data collection instrument for those including primary data (e.g., questionnaire / interview schedule) in their work.

Completion of this assessment will address the following learning outcomes:

To formulate, design, and justify a business and management research project, including its  aims, scope and objectives.

To identify and appraise ethical challenges relating to the research design. Secure ethical approval for the research project and ensure that it is conducted in line with BCU policies and the norms of business and management research.

To self-manage the development of the research, using rigorous research and project management techniques, and critically appraise the work undertaken, to facilitate  improvements in personal research and project practice.

To critically evaluate and synthesise current business and management theory, which is at the forefront of the academic discipline, and is relevant for the course, pathway and the particular topic, case or organisation under investigation.

To assemble and source valid business data which will support the requirements  of the project aims, scope and objectives.

To professionally present the outcomes of the project, including drawing appropriate, original,  evidence-based conclusions. Provide recommendations and guidance for business decision-making in the chosen discipline or pathway.

Word Count

The maximum word count for this module assessment is shown on Page 1. A +10% margin of tolerance is applied, beyond which nothing further will be marked. Marks cannot be awarded for any learning outcomes addressed outside the word count.

The word count refers to everything in the main body of the text (including headings, tables, citations, quotes, lists etc.). Everything before (i.e. abstract, acknowledgements, contents, executive summaries etc.) and after (i.e. references, bibliographies, appendices etc) is not included in the word count limit.

Submission Information

Present any written aspects of the assessment using font size 11 and using 1.5 spacing to allow for comments and annotations to be added by the markers.

This assessment will be marked anonymously and should show your student number only. Submit this coursework assessment task via Moodle.

Late Submission

Where you are required to submit assessment by a certain deadline (for example essays, case studies or physical artifacts) but you fail to meet the deadline, your mark will be reduced in accordance with the Late Submissions Policy. This Policy does not apply where the assessment is ‘in-person’ such as exams and in-class tests.
