This work counts for 50% of the module's overall grade (Word limit: 2000 words).
The growth of trading blocs has impacted the global trading systems/patterns with several implications for countries within and outside the block. This is due to economic and political differences among the nations, creating levels of economic integration.
Choose any trade bloc from the Asian, North or South American continent that you would like to critically analyse and evaluate the implications of the level of economic integration for 2 countries in the bloc, considering the type (s) of agreements and differences politically/economically.
In addition, critically assess the impact on global markets and trade patterns of the chosen trade bloc by discussing the role of General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO), considering the advantages and disadvantages of the regional trading bloc on your selected trade bloc.
On successful completion of this assessment, you will be able to:
a) analyse and apply concepts, theories, and principles as well as key terms associated with trade bloc/economic integration
b) analyse rapidly changing global trends and assess their impact on markets and trade, and on the geopolitical relationships among countries within trade blocs
