ASSIGNMENT I (INDIVIDUAL): 20%
The objective of this assignment is to display practical skills in conducting inspection on high rise residential and public buildings. Student will identify, analyse and report on the building defects in a form of video presentation. The video will provide professional recommendations for the rectification and offers preventive strategies for future maintenance.
Task Description
- Select a building. Please choose one building (high rise residential or public building) for inspection. The building must have accessible parts that may show evidence of physical deterioration and defects. Please justify why you choose the building.
- Conduct a defect inspection. Perform a defect inspection to the selected building. Please choose three (3) major defects only per group. Each of student require to carry out one defect only. The defect chosen must be different in term of type and elements. Please demonstrate how you conduct the inspection to the building. (ex: protocol inspection, tools used, step by step explanation and etc)
- Identify and document the defects. Please highlight how you identify the defects. Next please record the defect in details (measurement, reading etc). The defects found must include the defect description, possible causes, propose remedial action and preventive maintenance strategy to mitigate further deterioration.
Task Requirements
- This assignment must be submitted in the form of video presentation (Format: MP4) & must be presented in English.
- The length of video should not exceed 5 minutes in total.
- Only high rise residential and public building is allowed to choose for this assignment.However, this restriction is depending on the location. The lecturer may decide the case studies as long as it not contradict with the criteria that has been mentioned.
- This is an individual assignment. However, this assignment may be conducted in the form of group. The group formed must not exceeded three (3) of students. Each of student MUST be available and present in the video.
- Please read this assignment brief carefully, make sure all the important points are included in your video.
- The video must be submitted before or on Friday @ 14/11/2025 @ 11.59pm. Attention to class representative, please prepare the Google Drive link for submission.
