BMMM5005 Assessment Information – What You Need to Do

This is an individual blog and justification & reflection on sustainable, eco-friendly consumption of cosmetics and body care products.

In recent years, the global beauty and personal care industry has witnessed a transformative shift towards sustainability and eco-friendliness. With increasing awareness about the environmental impacts of conventional cosmetic products, consumers are now more inclined to choose eco- friendly and sustainable alternatives. But what does it mean to consume cosmetics and body care products sustainably? And how can consumers make informed choices to contribute to a greener planet?

In this assessment you’ll reflect on these questions with a focus on your live case study: Bosley

This assignment is designed to assess the following learning outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate the practical application of the theories from advanced scholarship relating to consumer behaviour.
  2. Evaluate and appraise the customer journey and how organisations can influence the buying process through culturally relevant brand and communication strategies.
  3. Critically evaluate and synthesise customer insight and data to determine future marketing strategy.

BMMM5005 Assessment Details:

Blog (50%): 750 words (+/- 10%) (675 - 825 words)
Justification & Reflection (50%): 1,500 words (+/- 10%) (1,350 – 1,650 words)

There will be a penalty of a deduction of 10% of the mark for work exceeding the word limit by 10% or more.

The word limit includes quotations and citations, but excludes the references list and appendices (if applicable).

Blog (750 words; weighting: 50%) (in a POWERPOINT format)

Title Page (ONE slide) –

you need to give a compelling title to your blog post. Add a cover image that complements your blog to attract more readers.

Introduction (ONE slide) –

provide an introduction to your blog highlighting its purpose, and introduce Bosley including its mission, unique selling point, target market and close competitors.

Main Body (THREE slides)

  1. In one slide present how the global beauty and personal care industry has shifted towards sustainability and eco-friendliness by referring to various practices by Bosley’s competitors. You are expected to highlight good practices from at least two competitors.
  2. In the next slide, you do the same analysis as the previous slide, yet this time you focus on Bosley. How sustainable and eco-friendly is the company and its products? You must present evidence to support your argument, such as screenshots from the company’s webpage, social media sites and so on.
  3. In the final slide, you compare and contrast Bosley with its competitors informed by the previous two slides, and conclude your discussion with a statement for Bosley on what further actions they can take towards a sustainable and eco-friendly consumption of cosmetics and body care products.

Justification:

Using relevant frameworks and theories introduced in this module, discuss the significance of sustainable, eco-friendly consumption. You should have two particular emphases: (a) business practices, and (b) consumer attitudes and behaviour. Business practices can be identified from corporate web pages, social media sites, and so on. Consumer attitudes and behaviour can be identified through consultancy reports, Mintel, Statista and so on.

We expect you to refer to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and outline how these goals may shape the current practices of businesses and consumer behaviour.

Reflection:

Give examples of how brand, communication strategies and networked consumer behaviour have impacted on your own consumption of cosmetics and body care products with references to relevant theoretical models and frameworks. Reflecting on your own consumption of cosmetics and body care products, what are the key socio-cultural, ethical and psychological elements that motivate your own buying behaviour?

How to Submit your Assessment

The assessment must be submitted by 11.59am on Friday the 7th June 2024. No paper copies are required. You can access the submission link through the module web.

  • Your coursework will be given a zero mark if you do not submit a copy through Turnitin. Please take care to ensure that you have fully submitted your work.
  • Please ensure that you have submitted your work using the correct file format, unreadable files will receive a mark of zero. The Faculty accept Microsoft Office and PDF documents, unless otherwise advised by the module leader. This means you will need to save your PowerPoint slides as a pdf before submitting.
  • All work submitted after the submission deadline without a valid and approved reason will be subject to the University regulations on late submissions.
    oIf an assessment is submitted up to 24 hours late the mark for the work will be capped at the pass mark of 50 per cent.
    oIf an assessment is submitted beyond 24 hours late the work will receive a mark of zero per cent.
    oThe above applies to your first attempt at the assessment. If work submitted as a reassessment of a previously failed assessment task is submitted later than the deadline the work will immediately be given a mark of zero per cent.
    oIf an assessment which is marked as pass/fail rather than given a percentage mark is submitted later than the deadline, the work will immediately be marked as a fail.
  • The University wants you to do your best. However, we know that sometimes events happen which mean that you can’t submit your coursework by the deadline – these events should be beyond your control and not easy to predict. If this happens, you can apply for an extension to your deadline for up to two weeks, or if you need longer, you can apply for a deferral, which takes you to the next assessment period (for example, to the re-sit period following the main Assessment Boards). You must apply before the deadline. You will find information about applying for extensions and deferrals here.
  • You MUST keep a copy and/or an electronic file of their assignment.
  • Checks will be made on your work using anti-plagiarism software and approved plagiarism checking websites.

Return of Marked Work

You can expect to have feedback returned to you on 28 June 2024 (15 working days). If for any reason there is a delay you will be kept informed. Marks and feedback will be provided online. It is important that you access the feedback you receive as this will help to make improvements to your later work, you can request a meeting with your Module Leader or Personal Tutor to discuss your feedback in more detail.
