BLDG1014 Building Measurement Group Assignment Brief Term 2, 2025

BLDG1014 Scenario: 

You are working as a Quantity Surveyor at 'Sydney Quantity Surveying Pty Ltd'. You are assigned to a new project for a proposed residential development. The Senior Quantity Surveyor asked you to prepare Bills of Quantities (BoQ) using CostX software, in accordance with Australian and New Zealand Standard Method of Measurement (2022 edition) (ANZSMM). 

For this Assessment, you must choose one option from the Table 1 below:

Task 1: Project Summary (25 Marks)

Initially, you are required to prepare one page project summary. It should include the following sections. 

a.An introduction -brief description of the project 
b.Basic building areas 

1. Land area 
2. Gross Floor Area (GFA) 
3. Fully Enclosed Covered Area (FECA) 
4. Unenclosed Covered Area (UCA)

Task 2: Bills of Quantities (75 Marks) 

Select either option 1 or 2 and from Table 1 above and prepare BoQ for required sections using CostX software. You MUST use CostX software for this task. 

(For example, if you choose Option 1, you will submit BoQ for Groundworks and Masonry sections.) 

Task 2 should include the following: 

1.List of assumptions -Students are encouraged to make sensible assumptions where drawings and specifications are not clear and where there are discrepancies between drawings and specifications. (One Page Only) 

2.CostX file in '.exf' format imported and uploaded. All the calculations should be clearly provided including the following. 

1. Relevant drawings are uploaded, named and filed in a consistent format, showing the digital measurement 
2. Dimension groups are created and named where necessary. 

3.Prepare the following bills and extract into PDF format 

Option 1 
a.Groundworks 
b.Masonry 

Option 2 
c.Groundworks 
d.Exterior Elements

All the relevant drawings, reports and details are provided in the separate folder in the Moodle. A list of drawings and reports uploaded in the folder is given in Appendix 1 of this document.

Submission: 

The submission is due 4 August 2025, 11.59pm. All the files must be submitted via Moodle. The submission includes three files 

File 1: PDF file including Project Summary (Task1) 
File 2: CostX file in ".exf" format. CostX files can be submitted in multiple files due to the limitation and restriction of CostX educational version. 
File 3: PDF file including Concrete and Masonry/Exterior Elements BoQ, List of Assumptions and Contribution sheet 

All the files are to be named "student number_full name_Task1/2". Late submissions: Marks will be deducted for late submission without approval for an extension as per the UNSW rules, policies, and guidelines (refer to Course Outline). Extensions will only be considered under approved Special Considerations. 

Group work: 

It is important to work together as a group to complete this assessment. Students must form groups of 2-3 members. Self-enrol to a group using 'Major Assessment group' link provided in the Moodle -Assessment Hub. 

BLDG1014 Marking Criteria: 

Submission of Assessment Tasks All assessment tasks must be submitted via either Turnitin or Moodle assignment. In instances where this is not possible, it will be stated on your course's Moodle site with alternative submission details. 

You are advised to submit well before the deadline to avoid unanticipated submission errors. Always retain a copy of work submitted, and keep all drafts, original data and other evidence of the authenticity of your work for at least one year after assessment. If an assessment is mislaid you are responsible for providing a further copy. 

Turnitin Submission 

If you encounter a problem when attempting to submit your assignment through Turnitin, please telephone External Support on 9385 3331 or email externalteltsupport@unsw.edu.au. Support. Hours are 8:00am -10:00pm on weekdays and 9:00am -5:00pm on weekends (365 days a year). If you are unable to submit your assignment due to a fault with Turnitin you may apply for Special Consideration. In this case, you must retain your ticket number from External Support (along with any other relevant documents) to include as evidence to support your application for Special Consideration. If you email External Support you will automatically receive a ticket number, but if you telephone you will need to specifically ask for one. Note that Turnitin provides updates on their system status on Twitter.
