Assessment Type | Report |
Assessment Title | Assessment 1 |
Students are to identify and interview a leader they know, someone known to them in a personal or work capacity, not someone they know of, like Mahatma Gandhi, the King or Queen of Bhutan, Bill Gates, or Oprah Winfrey. The interview will inform an analytical report on the leader’s individual qualities and situational factors contributing to their leadership success.
The purpose of the interview is for students to engage with a leader familiar to them, and to collect information to aid them in profiling the leader’s leadership traits, characteristics, style, behaviours, and/or other situational factors that drive leadership success or failure (ULO2).
In preparation for the interview, students are to design a set of interview questions, which forms part of the word count. The design of the interview questions is an assessable demonstration of students’ understanding of the theories/concepts of the unit (ULO1).
The data and findings from the interview should then be presented in the form of an analytical report. The report should be informed by the theories, concepts, and discussions about leadership considered in this unit (ULO1).
The profile presented in the report should also include reflective comments on what the interviewer sees as important in leadership. In this sense, the leadership competencies highlighted by the interview and illustrated in the leader’s profile could serve to model the development of the interviewer’s own leadership competencies (ULO3). This can contribute to work towards Assessment 3, the Leadership Development Plan.
To sum up, this assignment has three components:
1. Design of interview questions
2. Conduct of interview
3. Preparation of an analytical report.
