Engagement Assignment 

General Information 

This assignment consists of two parts: a group presentation and a Q&A count for 10%, and a group report counts for 8%, together representing 18% of your overall grade for this subject. 

Administration

Group report must be typed, 1.5-spaced with font size of 11 (Arial) or 12 (Times New Roman). All pages should be numbered. 

Submission

Group presentation slides and group report submissions should be made via the LMS subject page. 

Please make sure that you only submit the final version of the assignment (as a PDF document). 

Group presentation will be scheduled during Mid/end of April. Detailed arrangements will be announced on LMS. 

Group report should be submitted via LMS by April 14th, 2025, 11:59 pm. 

The file name of the presentation slides has the following format: Slides_Group number.pdf, for example, "Slides_Group 50.pdf". 

The file name of the report has the following format: Report_Group number.pdf, for example, "Report_Group 50.pdf".

Prepare the Group Presentation: 

Deliver a group presentation to your seminar lead lecturer. The presentation will be strictly limited to 10 minutes and will be stopped once the time limit is reached. The presentation will be scheduled in April. Detailed arrangements will be announced on LMS. Every group member must participate. 

The presentation should: 

  • Clearly and concisely explain the chosen theory.
  • Summarise the news article, highlighting the key issue or event.
  • Discuss how the theory explains or addresses the issues in the news. 

Participate in the Q&A Session: 

After the presentation, there will be a 10-minute Q&A session where the lecturer will ask questions to evaluate your understanding of the theory and the news. Every group member must participate in this session. 

Submit the Written Report: 

Write a 1,600- 2,000-word report(excluding references) that includes the following parts:

Explain the chosen theory, the issues in the news, and how the theory explains or solves those issues. This serves as a summary of the content covered by the presentation. (400-500 words) 

Include the following additional analyses: 

a. Stakeholder Impact Analysis (400-500 words): 

  • Analyze the impact of the issue discussed in the news on three types of stakeholders: shareholders, creditors, and managers/employees.
  • Use theories to explain how these stakeholders might interpret or respond to the issue.
  • Discuss potential conflicts of interest among these stakeholders. 

b. Theoretical Limitations and Extensions (400-500 words): 

  • Critically evaluate the limitations of the theory in explaining the issue.
  • Propose extensions or modifications to the theory to better address the issue. 

c. Critical Reflection (400-500 words): 

  • Reflect on the group's learning process, including how the theory helped (or did not help) in understanding the news.
  • Discuss challenges faced in reconciling the theory with the real-world issue and how they were overcome.
  • Share personal insights or takeaways from the assignment. 

The written report should cover ALL of the aspects listed above. The report should be submitted in LMS by April 14th, 11:59 pm. 

The table below outlines the content required for both the presentation and the report, along with the corresponding marking guidelines. The Appendix of this assignment guideline also provides the marking sheet that the lecturer will use when evaluating the presentation and Q&A session.
