5N3734 Assessment Brief Skills Demonstration: Task 1

Criteria

Organization of the task

• Prepares area (should be well ventilated)
• Wears gloves and apron
• Collects the necessary cleaning equipment to include cloths, detergent, disinfectant
• klorsopt 1:00(bpm concentration, hot water and basin
• Ensures chemical is made up following manufacturer’s instructions
• Ensures solution is made up in well ventilated area.
• Ensures safety data sheets are available for all cleaning chemicals
• Ensures labels are clear
• If soiled with blood and bodily fluids, follows routine policy, using the klorsopt

Procedure for the task

• Puts on gloves
• Place basin or bucket onto a cleaning trolley
• Dampers or rinses cloth in the cleaning solution
• Washes basin of commode with detergent and warm water and disinfects in bed pan washer-disinfector.
• Washes the commode frame arms, underneath, arms, legs and wheels. (If visibly soiled washes with detergent first, then disinfects)
• Rinses well and allows to dry.
• Disposes of cloth or returns for laundering as appropriate.
• Reports any abnormalities to Supervisor

• Shows awareness of the importance of avoiding splashes when emptying basin
• Shows awareness of storing chemicals correctly

Criteria

Organisation of the task

• Ensures all jewellery, for example rings with stones, wrist watches etc. are removed
• Covers any cuts with a waterproof plaster
• Ensures nails are clean and short no nail varnish
• Identifies appropriate stick, taps and ensures there is liquid soap in dispenser
• Ensures there is paper towel present
• Ensures the pedal bin available for disposal of paper towel is present

Procedure for the task

• Turns on tap and runs tepid water
• Wets hands and wrists
• Uses the right amount of liquid soap and warm water using wrist or elbow to dispense soap.
• Rubs palm to palm
• Rubs back of each hand with palm of other hand with fingers interlaced
• Rubs palm to palm with fingers interlaced
• Rubs with back of fingers opposing hands with fingers interlocked
• Rubs each thumb clasped in opposite hand using a rotational movement
• Rubs tips of fingers in opposite palm in circular motion
• Rubs each wrist with opposite hand
• Rimes hands and turns off tap using elbow
• Pats hands dry with paper towel
• Disposes of paper towel into pedal bin
• If doing antiseptic hand hygiene carries out the same sequence using alcohol gel

5N3734 Assessment Brief Skills Demonstration: Task 3

Criteria

Organization of the task

• Puts on PPE
• Prepare chlorine solution e.g. presept 1:1,000pm (2 by 2.5 gram tablets dissolved in 2.5 litres of water,
• Prepares detergent for cleaning
• Organises RED laundry bag/skip, ALGINATE bag, YELLOW refuse bags, container for healthcare risk waste

Procedure for the task

• Places curtains, screens and bed linen/duvet in alginate bag (water soluble bag), secures bag using draw string closure, (air should be expelled from bag before closing to prevent bursting) and then places into a RED laundry bag/skip outside door
• Washes and disinfects window blinds
• If using vacuum cleaner, ensures it is fitted with HEPA filter
• Changes HEPA filter if necessary and updates records
• Washes all surfaces (damp dusting method wiping in straight lines and using a figure of eight pattern when wiping main surfaces) including furniture, equipment, bed frame, mattress covers and pillows with general purpose detergent. Ensures wipes underneath lockers, trolleys, chairs etc and ensures to clean wheels and brakes.
• Following cleaning disinfects all surfaces, furniture, equipment and patient care equipment with Presept
• Discards all items soiled with blood, body fluids or infectious material i.e. respiratory, oral, or wound secretions into the appropriate Healthcare Risk Waste Yellow Bag Container.
• Slows awareness of disposal of single use items.
• After vacuuming, washes floors with designated floor cleaning detergent and then disinfects with Presept solution 1:1000pm
• Dries with disposable cloths or paper towels.
• Disposes materials appropriately

• Disposes of PPE appropriately

• Identifies the need to segregate the laundry

• Removes linen to the laundry room if necessary

• Carries out hand hygiene

Assessment Brief Skills Demonstration: Task 4

Criteria (Cleaning Up Blood Spill)

Organization of Task

• Gathers the necessary PPE equipment: gloves (essential), apron, goggles and mask.
• Checks that the correct waste bag is available e.g. yellow for healthcare risk waste.
• Gathers items to manage the spillage—disposable paper towels, disinfectant, spillage kit, etc.
• Gathers single-incident use disposable scoops.
• Prepares appropriate chlorine based disinfectant e.g. presept with a concentration of 10,000 ppm available chlorine

Procedure

• Puts on PPE
• Contains spillage.
• If spillage large uses paper towel to absorb/contain the fluid.
• Takes care to avoid splashing
• Applies disinfectant
• Uses clean towels/disinfectant on the area, cleaning upwards from the area and placing disposable towels immediately into a healthcare risk receptacle.
• Keeps receptacle be close to hand for doing this immediately and safely.
• Never leaves contaminated towels on any other surface.
• Further cleans the area using fresh disposable towels and a solution of water and general purpose detergent.
• Disposes of all remaining items into a healthcare risk receptacle.
• If reusable equipment is being used (e.g. buckets and mop heads), ensures equipment is cleaned/handered, dried and stored appropriately.
• Disposes of PPE appropriately
• Performs hand hygiene
