505IT Assignment Task

Introduction:

For this assignment, you will design, implement, and evaluate an interactive interface prototype for a case study web application. The case study system is a web-based application called "Green Journey Advisor," designed to assist users in planning sustainable travel options. You are required to apply the knowledge and techniques learned throughout the module to create an effective, user-friendly, and innovative interface for this system.

Design Portfolio – 100 Marks (this element is worth 60% of the overall module grade)

1.Problem Analysis and Case Study Selection (15 marks):

  • Analyse the "Green Journey Advisor" case study web application, identifying its purpose and target users.
  • Provide a clear rationale for selecting this case study web application.
  • Describe the goals and user requirements for the interface prototype.

2.Interface Design and Prototyping (35 marks):

  • Create low-fidelity sketches to illustrate the design concept for "Green Journey Advisor."
  • Develop medium-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes for the chosen case study system.
  • Justify design decisions based on HCI principles and usability engineering theory.
  • Include suitable design elements for various device and system types (e.g., desktop, tablet, mobile).

3.Interface Implementation (30 marks):

  • Develop a high-fidelity interactive prototype for the "Green Journey Advisor" system.
  • Ensure the interface is functional, intuitive, and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Use appropriate web development technologies and programming languages.
  • Provide a well-structured codebase with proper comments and documentation.

4.Usability Evaluation (20 marks):

  • Conduct a comprehensive usability evaluation of the developed interface prototype.
  • Use various evaluation methods such as heuristic analysis, usability testing, and cognitive walkthroughs.
  • Document the evaluation process, findings, and any necessary improvements.
