502MAN  Assignment Task

The Local Council, in collaboration with the University student union (SU), will be organising a music, art, and cultural festival project. The City Council Arts and Culture Committee has recruited you as a consultant project manager to plan and successfully deliver this project that will take place in a local venue within your local city centre with a capacity of 500 people. You are required to deliver a Part A - 2500-word project initiation document report to the committee members, showing your understanding of the role of a project in delivering organisational strategic goals and objectives. In addition, Part B – 500-word reflection on lessons learnt about project management based on your project initiation report.

Your 3,000-word report [+/- 10%] should include the following:

Part A – 2,500-word [+/- 10%]

projection initiation report covering the following:

  • A proposed project methodology for initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling a project, including well-defined SMART goals and deliverables for each project phase.
  • A justification of the application of theoretical frameworks and methodologies within the project environment, and focus on the business objectives, environment, and stakeholder expectations in relation to the project.
  • A critical evaluation of the composition and management of teams within the proposed plan and in a project environment.
  • A project management plan formulation and an overview of the project manager's role in shaping the project and its characteristics.
  • An appraisal of measures to control and monitor project risk, quality, change, and configuration.

Part B – 500-word reflection [+/- 10%]

on lessons learnt based on your project initiation report covering the following:

  • An evaluation of project success and failure and a dissemination of the key learning points from the delivery of the project as future manager and leader.

  • Learning Outcome 4: Formulate a project management plan.
  • Learning Outcome 5: Appraise measures to control and monitor project risk, quality, change, and configuration.
  • Learning Outcome 6: Evaluate project success and failure and disseminate the key learning points from the delivery of the project.

This module has been mapped to CMI 513 – Managing Projects. In addition to the above learning outcomes your assessment will be marked in accordance with achieving the following CMI Learning Outcomes:

  1. Understand the role of projects in delivering organizational strategy.
  2. Understand processes for initiating, planning, and managing projects.
  3. Understand the factors which contribute to effective project management.

Upon successful completion of the module and degree program, students may be considered for an additional professional qualification – Level 5 CMI Diploma in Management and Leadership – provided the professional standards are met.
