Writing portfolio
This assignment comprises three tasks, each of which build on the previous task.
As part of the preparation for Task 3, you will need to create a literature matrix to summarise the research you have found for your report and offer critical comments for each. There should be a minimum of 20 sources, which need to be presented in a table and organised logically according to the key themes related to your topic. You need to ensure that this matrix is accurately referenced throughout according to UCB guidelines. All sources must be co-created with your classmates and agreed by your lecturer.
Once you have done the research for your literature matrix, you next need to create a referenced report plan for Task 3. In this plan you should
i) outline the main sections of the report, indicating possible headings
ii) provide topic sentences for each main body paragraph and include links to the sources from your literature matrix where you will find the support for each point.
iii) include a full reference list that confirms to UCB guidelines. These will be the only sources that you can reference in your final report.
Finally, using your plan, you are required to write a research report exploring the impact of one aspect of business communication within one chosen industry or type of organisation from your own country, providing recommendations for dealing with that specific aspect. You will need to agree your chosen industry or organisation and your aspect of business communications with your lecturer. Include your full reference list which should conform to UCB guidelines.
Below are the marking criteria that align with both the task(s) set and the quality of your document. Clear weightings/marks will be noted for each criterion. The overall mark awarded for this assignment will explicitly show how the mark was calculated based on your performance against each criterion.

Importance of Word Count |
Assignment word counts should always be observed. Ignoring a word count significantly increases the risk of your work losing marks because it will likely lack focus and clarity, and/or you would have gained an unfair advantage over others who have completed their work within the word count. Students will be required to state their word count on all submissions. A 10% leeway will be allowed, so the maximum a student should submit will be the word count + 10%. The word count will exclude:

Page limits in some assessments |
For some projects/assessments, a page limit may be set to encourage you to focus on the most critical information. This is particularly important in projects that involve multiple elements such as tables, graphs, diagrams, calculations or extensive coding, where purposeful information is key. |
