| Assessment Title | Assessment 1: Conceptual Pitch |
|---|---|
| Academic Year | 2025-26 |
For the Conceptual Pitch, groups are required to assemble a portfolio of material that effectively presents the conceptual idea that will drive the intention and vision of the digital media project.
Groups can determine how the conceptual material is developed (Individual group members taking on specific tasks, or the whole group completing each task together) and collated (e.g., Wix, Squarespace, or a PDF portfollo) but are reminded that the portfolio (including the slide deck) must embody a strong level of Interconnectedness and a unity of style.
The portfolio material will then be used to create a slide deck for a 10-minute Conceptual Pitch that will be presented by the group in Weeks 6 or 7 workshops.
The main point of this process is to consider, research, and conceptualise the idea so that you can assertively relate the 'Why' of your creative choices. The 'How is Important too, but the 'Why' is the key.
The portfolio should Include:
a) Material documenting the concept Inclusive of section a & b to explain the Intention and vision for the Digital Story (the 'How' and the 'Why'). This must state:
b) Regarding the remaining digital material to be included in the documentation, it Is at the group's discretion to decide what best provides a comprehensive overview of the Digital Story. While not limited to these suggestions, given the presentation is for a digital video project, it would be expected to include a variety of different types of digital content such as:
Narrative documentation (script, beat sheet, 10-pont plan, or story wheel).
c) Helpful templates to prepare the concept presentation (script format, narrative documentation, storyboards etc.) are located in the 'Resources' section under the Learning Materials tab on LMS.
d) The documentation material can include 50% digital stock content by way of secondary material (all sourced material should be correctly referenced using the UWA APA 7 Referencing guide). All written material must be originally created by team members.
e) As part of presenting the conceptual idea, in week 6 or 7 workshops, the group must deliver a 10-minute Conceptual Pitch that summarises the Digital Story concept. Every group member must be an active participant in the delivery of the pitch.
f) The pitch deck must include a selection of digital content from the group's portfolio to effectively communicate the concept. It is up to each group to decide what to include to best communicate the digital project's conceptual idea in the short time frame. More Information on how to effectively pitch a concept will be provided in lectures and workshops.
g) PowerPoint or a similar offline presentation program should be used for the slide deck. To avoid technical issues, an ADL laptop will be used for all pitches. Each group must bring along their presentation on a USB and must arrange a time with the ADL ahead of class to test the presentation. If there are compatibility issues, it is the group's responsibility to address these prior to their class. Marks may be lost for a lack of preparation and professionalism if these steps are not followed.
h) The pitch will be followed by a Q&A session, where the class tutor and peers will ask questions regarding the proposed Digital Story and also provide feedback to help develop each group's story concept.
1) After the in-class pitch, the presentation material (including a link to the online portfollo) must be exported as a PDF and submitted to LMS.
Please note: Students are not automatically awarded the group mark for the Conceptual Pitch. To assess students' Individual contribution towards Assessment 1, a compulsory Team Contribution form will be used. Students will be required to submit feedback on their own individual contribution as well as that of their peers towards the Conceptual Pitch via this self-and-peer review process and, where required, this will be used to inform the tutor in the allocation of a student's Individual mark for the Conceptual Pitch assessment.
The Team Contribution form should not be used as the first means to report any significant group issues relating to Individual contribution. If these issues cannot be resolved by the group, the matter must be brought to the tutor's attention as soon as possible.
